The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Aramis and Junior are SOLD and off to their new home. He hopes to keep them together as long as they're getting along okay. Yea! FINALLY! He thought they were big boys for their age and was very impressed with their barring, too.

I moved Thea and her four Brahma chicks into their pen for now, more room for her.

Well, Thea was going nuts, did not want to stay in the larger 5x8 pen with her four one week old Brahma chicks, so I let her go back to her dog crate. It is a Great Dane size so, for now, she has plenty of room, at least until her chicks get bigger. So, now to see when Lizzie will reject her three BR chicks who are already 3 weeks old. Brandy is on Day 3 tomorrow with seven Brahma eggs, which the guy is also interested in, possibly. We may play some more musical chickens, but that pen is empty now with MaryJo living with Georgie, June, Neela, Alice and Maretta. Maybe Brandy would be best suited for it since she is going to probably have more chicks than either Lizzie or Thea, having started with seven eggs. We won't even talk about broody Jill! She is NOT getting eggs!

I'll miss that, too. Some folks send me pictures later on, but I never request it.

I'm miffed with Atlas. He is not being nice to the three girls I gave him, even when they squat for him. If they don't immediately submit to him, he does a lightening fast flog and pushes them away. Wendy squatted for him, head down to the floor and, it seemed because she was too close to the cinder block that the waterer sits on and not in a good position, he immediately flogged her.

What would you do? Soon, he'll have no hens if he keeps this up. Ida is going downhill and I'm sure she isn't going to make it. Lizzie is going to Hector after her broody period is over. All other hens except Tessa are 3 years older than Atlas.

Um, Atlas shouldn't be flogging hens at all. I'd be yelling at him, and chasing him around for doing that. I know the younger ones are clumsy at first, and it takes them a little time to perfect their technique, but it doesn't include flogging hens.

Went to the Dr. on Wednesday. There is something new she wants me on, so she switched all my meds. I started on the one, and it will take a bit to get used to, but it's not too bad. The other medication should arrive from the manufacturer in 2-3 weeks, hot off the assembly line. It's so new, it's not in the pharmacies yet. I hope I tolerate it well.
