The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

It's probably Drew, but I can't let it go until I know for sure. And with a comb more feminine than Apollo's by this age, I can't call it and put this one up for sale just yet. Plus, MaryJo needs someone with her until she can go in with June's group to finish growing out.

The cockerel walks around grumbling just like Hector. He is a mini-me!

My tomatoes are trying to start turning, but we had so much rain, the first one was rotten before it turned. We'll see.

Here are the peanuts today

They are so adorable, Mary!

Well, Thea is really broody this time. She laid an egg after sitting for four hours or so. I took it and put her in a different nest where the fan was blowing in her face. She got back in the nest she had been sitting in all day, then I put her on the roost next to Hector just a bit ago. She went back to the nest. So, yup, here we go.

Thea is so pretty. It's too bad her wry tail makes her unbreedable. My 2 year old enjoyed the video. :)
It really is too bad. She's a real doll. I can call her and she comes running, loves to be picked up. She's a hugger.

Angry Broodies Unite!
They are conspiring against me.

Cyn Drew/Drea really has me confused... Any saddle feathers yet? At that age you should be able to pull back his feathers and see the shiny ones poking through I would think

Not quite yet, I don't think, but I can check that out. They won't be 11 weeks until Saturday, but I'll check that today when I let them out. How are the calves coming along?

Hubs had to leave early to go get another shot in his knee so I was left with barn chores. The cat was sleeping soundly in his recliner (yes, the cat's, though it was supposed to be Tom's, but well, you know cats). When I got back inside, he wasn't there. So, I thought maybe I was mistaken, that he had gone outside with me. Walked through the craft room to get to the bathroom to wash the barn dust off my glasses and I see this, Serves me right for not closing the door, I suppose. This is why I'm a dog person, sorry Finn. Good thing he was not on the table runner that I left on the ironing board.

I did try to check Drea/Drew for saddle feathers, but I could not hold it still to check. Will have to wait until Tom gets back from the doc. They really don't like you messing with their back feathers! I did see some feathers coming in, but with my eyesight, having to remove my glasses or look over/under them to see that close up, I could not focus to tell if they were rounded or pointy. So, squirmy child will have to wait a bit.

And Thea did spend all night on the nest. Sadly, I have only two Brahma eggs so I hope at least Betsy will lay one today. My customer wants a splash partridge, especially, but he may be disappointed. I told him I was not able to tell if they were splash, blue or straight partridge right away, not until they feather in a good bit; plus, I never take chicks from mama, not unless she has so many she would not miss a couple. There won't be enough for that. Even if three Brahmas lay today, that's only five eggs. The ones in the fridge are already three weeks old.
