That woman was too comfortable with the Highland bull. The original story I read, which I cannot locate now, said he had always been friendly before that day, but hey, he's a bull and you can never predict what one will do. Big goat bucks would also make me cautious, like Leah's Mom said. All it takes is one knocking you off your feet, even if his intention was not to harm.

Gentle bulls don't exist in my experiences, they are all dangerous. Buck goats can be either way, I've had very good ones, and one so aggressive he was put down. The people who raised him played butting games, a big no no in raising goats, especially males.

New photos of the two BOYS for you. Yes, I'm calling it DREW, or actually, Male #1 in the pics for advertising purposes. The comb still looks more like a pullet's comb, for sure, but most everything else seems to be male-the overall size, the leg size, the barring, the tail lift. This is an 11 week old cockerel? Crazy. Girly-man.

So, cockerel or pullet? Your FINAL ANSWERS, please! B4 I sell this one off.

Thanks, he turned out to be very handsome, this guy. Haven't had any luck selling him, though. He's a good, calm guy very much like his half-brother, Apollo, was.

This caught my eye. I too had ordered Mottled Javas from Sandhill. They held my order up all spring and summer last year, and finally sent them in September. I guess their mottled javas were the problem. I got one mottled java, among the 10 welsummers and other "fillers" (including a TINY Delaware). The one mottled java I got was small and like yours, had messed up legs. I hobbled it with little hope it would turn around. It did, and turned out to be a cockerel. With an attitude and a crooked neck when he crowed. Needless to say he did not stay here. Days before the Sandhill order arrived I had 9 mottled java chicks hatch (breeder stock) in my incubator. That was definitely the way to go--- big healthy chicks. Needless to say, I won't order from Sandhill again.

On a better note , I do like my other chicks I got. Of course who needs 10 polish? They had started me a couple of chicks. I didn't even ask for my money back. Today I got a credit voucher for 25 dollars or 50 dollars if I wat to order again. Gotcha again. Chicken math. I do like my blue orps. From them. Not as big as my orps from papas poultry. I need to process my cockerels soon. Pretty easy to tell who are going to be the crowers.

How much are you asking? I can't seem to sell out here but I have nothing that looks that good. My husband says he would rather eat them than give them away.

I have a neighbor going on a long road trip around the country and passing right through your area in the next few days. If we were allowed roosters I would be tempted to ask if she wanted to pick up one of your boys for me on her way through, though I doubt she'd want to have a rooster along on the last week of their vacation lol.

They sweeten up as they cure. After we pick them before the first frost, they get more time to cure in the sun before we even attempt to eat them, I generally need to wait until November before they are the best.

Generally you wait until you can't puncture the skin with your fingernail. Otherwise they won't be delicious. My mother was picking here too soon 2 years ago and was wondering why they weren't good. They are a winter storage squash, and should be treated like pumpkins.

I find butternut squash extremely tasty, so they are one of my specialty. I grow no other variety or type of squash, except for pumpkin hybrids.

I don't know southern gardening though, so it's possible it's a bit different down there.

No I haven't, but butter makes everything better, so I'm sure it's delicious.
