The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

What are your current conditions?

Right now, just a gentle breeze and gentle rain. Nothing, really. The schools are closed here today and tomorrow. Guess they expect that before school was out, we'd be hit harder and the mountain roads, especially some of the dirt/gravel ones, would be too difficult when kids were coming home. I really think it will be no worse than our usual pounding rain and wind storms. But, I'm hoping no trees fall on our house or outbuildings, especially the barn or the little coop where Thea and her chicks are living.

Still nothing earth-shattering, just rain and a mild wind. May get worse overnight, but it's like a normal rain for us right now.

Off-topic, this scene from one of the later Rocky movies is just awesome, where he tells his son to quit blaming everyone else for what happens to him. It's inspirational and so on the money for a lot of people today.

It was nothing more than our usual windy rainstorm. This a.m. we aren't even that covered up with branches down like one recent storm. Didn't lose power, though my son about 100 miles south of me lost power for 8 hours yesterday. I knew when I saw the track of it being pushed farther west that it wouldn't be anything much to worry about here. I just hope the Ocoee River corridor is passable for DH as he drives to Cleveland, TN this morning to the Honda dealer.

Going to bed early. I swept, vacuumed, mopped, then cleaned the bathroom, did two loads of laundry, put fresh sheets on our bed, made two loaves of squash spice bread and then the Hector kids went to their new home and I moved Brandy and her six Brahma chicks into that 5x8 pen in the barn. I'm bushed.

Here is the recipe. It uses actual butter-so many use a cup of oil. Obviously, I sub 2 cups of butternut squash for the pumpkin. And usually, for the 3rd cup of sugar (it makes 2 loaves), I sub brown sugar and don't pack it, even skimp on the actual amount, sometimes use some raw honey in there with 3/4 c of brown sugar for the 3rd cup of sugar. I like to cut back on the sugar overall since the squash is so sweet on its own. And I don't have any cloves so I just sub allspice for that. You can play with this recipe a little bit. Mine was so fluffy this time, it fell apart, but I freeze the second loaf for later use.
