The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Leah, I agree with you, however, my husband thinks we should build a Disney World For Chickens. They need a pool, to soak their feet, and keep cool in the summer. They need hanging things to bop at, and amuse themselves. They need cubby holes to investigate. Swings to swing on. Ramps to run up, and down on. They need comfortable beds to lay on. You have no ideal how much I have to hold him back.

The newest video is really a slideshow of what our place looked like early on and how it progressed over the past 15 years as we shaped it into the place it is today. If I had included all the pictures I wanted to, it would have been over an hour long, LOL.

(((oops, had to change something! Will replace later.)))

Here is it, sorry! Really, an improved video with more photos so rewatch if you already did.

I remember the first time we saw the house, leaking faucets, overgrown jungle, dirty carpets in bedrooms, yellowish-white walls (smoker's home, tar stains), badly built porch roof leaking, fourth side was only the panel fiberglass, not built into the actual roof structure. But, it was open plan with a good size master bedroom and HUGE master closet and partial basement, not much wasted space. And it seemed secluded, though some of that was due to how overgrown the power line easement road behind it was-we didn't even know it was a road, had no street sign on it and still doesn't. I'd wanted to renovate the kitchen for awhile and the fire forced that. Long time ago. It's not at all the same place it was.

Other than the farmer who selectively logged the extra lots and the guy who stumped and seeded it to make pasture, plus the steel building guys, we did every blessed thing by ourselves, just the two of us. No family helped. Just us.

Plainly, it was a work of love, and turned out beautiful.

Well, it's still not "turned out", always a work in progress, but thank you. Today, DH can barely walk. Even using a poop rake was torture for him, but he insists on doing it with me. I said I'd finish the morning barn chores, but he wouldn't let me do them by myself today. This is why I think another place might be a better fit, but the moving part he believes would completely do him in. If he passes before I do, I may have to leave by myself, but I still can't see ever being happy again if I had to go back closer to any town, even our little mountain town. Maybe a little cabin behind locked gates on top of a mountain with a screened porch I could sleep on in summer would fit the bill.
