The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I'll let you keep you guineas, Cyn! Terrible experience here, too. Mine were even hatched by one of my friendliest broody hens! After she left them, my Willie Roo became their "Papa Willie." They LOVED him but became monsters to the rest of the flock, tearing out tail feathers, leaving the youngsters bloody. They then decided the tree would be a better roosting place. There was no taming these, even though they had been handled and socialized from hatch. Some got picked off by predators. The remaining 3 were rehomed. DH was never happier to see something leave the farm. No more constant dying turkeyduck sounds ALL DAY LONG.

More power to you if you can handle them :bow

(I also had some nasty hens who liked to pick Willie's saddle and hackle feathers, GRR)

I got the tarps put up on my coop. It's supposed to be be going down in the low 40's tonight. They're snug.

I plugged in the garage refrigerator, and it's getting cold now. Later on tonight, I will clean off the top of my kitchen refrigerator (covered cake pedestal, and crock pot), then move all the food to the one in the garage. New refrigerator, stove, and built in microwave coming between 7:30 - 11:30 am. I'll be ready.

I saw guineas today, coincidentally, on the side of the road at a farm as we were driving down roads we had not been down in years near our place. I love them, I can't help it! Michelle, it's odd that some folks have terrible experiences and some just love them. I loved them and had a not-so-great time with them when they got to maturity, but I think if you have mostly guineas and keep your chickens in a covered pen they cannot get into, it would work out just fine.

Oh, my, Maretta's six BR chicks are turning 6 weeks old Friday and the two boys are starting to be my best friends. This is how it begins. They are Atlas sons, so as usual, very sweet and friendly. The girls are less so, but that's because they still have a mama hen with them. I need to get her out, but it's so cold now and I want to free range that group she's going into as I put her out with them, for room to run. Grady's coming to get them after this cold snap. One of the boys is a moose, also as usual

Well, they came at 7:00 this morning, and put in the rest of my new appliances. They're all wiped down, fridge is cold now, so later I'll be moving the food into it. They brought the appliances in the boxes too, so I got them for the grandkids to play in. Good memories of playing in big boxes, using our imaginations, instead of having everything pre-packaged to play with.
