The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I agree. Even a 10 year age gap is quite a lot. I was just saying it exists. It's not my cup of tea though.

Oh, it exists, all right. I was disgusted when my 80-something year old father married an illegal alien who was only a couple of years older than me. I begged him not to do it, but there's nothing dumber than a lonely old man. And of course, she left him like I said she would in the end, but managed to be legally married to him when he died.

Tomorrow is THE day. The hearing is at 9 a.m. and Michael said he'll let us know what happened after it's done.

My ex went through a mid-life crisis. He suddenly, one day, realized he was getting old. Dh hasn't exactly gone through a mid-life crisis, but every so often, he'll comment in disbelief about how he must be getting older, because he used to be able to do such and so without a problem, and now it's not nearly so easy. Who's faces do these men see in the mirror, when they shave their wrinkling faces? Who's hair do they see when they brush the gray hairs on their heads, or lack of hair on their heads. They can't be seeing themselves in the mirror. It's like they suddenly wake up one morning, and see themselves for the first time in years. Suddenly they're shocked, and realize they've aged.

Judge threw out the case. Said there was more paperwork needed. Mike said how was he supposed to know, he wasn't told. Judge said, not my problem, I'm not an attorney. Said there was no transcript, that you had to pay for a court reporter 3 days prior to the first court date to have one, which he didn't know. So, he has to start over, file on his own, but he can't do it under the same poor man's divorce that she did. A lady atty followed him out of the courtroom and gave him some free advice, told him what he needs to do, said he had no way to know about the paperwork, that it was just to get more $$$ for the court.
He needs $213 to file, says he doesn't have it. I WILL NOT give it to him. I gave them $1000 to pay something they had to pay in order to get into the house they bought that he's living in and I haven't seen a dime of that. He probably doesn't even remember (wish I had let them sink back then). He makes enough money to divorce that faithless skank or he can sell something to pay for it.
The court also threw out a case ahead of his, a man's wife deserted him and he hadn't seen her in two years. The judge said tough, he had to get her to sign something. Now, I know there are divorces granted because of desertion. In that case, you have no idea where the spouse is so sounds like a big scam to me.

Tell him to look up the equivalent of Legal Aid in his state. While they probably won't handle his divorce, they will give good free advice. I'm not sure he wants to file on his own, especially under desertion. What paperwork was missing? I'd start with that. Is it something that requires her signature? He could mail her the paperwork to sign. A transcript is not usually necessary, unless something is being contested, and/or you need proof of something. Unless it's a state law that a transcript is necessary. Yes, you have to hire your own court reporter here too. The cost for the court reporter may, or may not include a copy of the transcript. He needs to find out.

IF legal aid is not available to him, he might look in the yellow pages for paralegal services. They're not free, but are a lot less expensive than an attorney, and many are very knowledgeable about the process, and paperwork, so in this instance, could be what he needs.
