The EXTRA Litter - no puppies :(

He is very dark. Considered a fault, but Penny should help him out a lot there.

Today is day 5 of 63. I will be photographing and updating every Friday for the next 8 weeks, so you can look for your weekly Friday Extra report.

Ultra sound to confirm she is in whelp will be on Friday March 5, which is day 29. Assuming she is "positive"

pre-partum exray will be on Monday April 5, day 60.

Puppies expected April 8th.

Hello Master of the Rotties!
big_smile.png
I have a question about the breed. I heard somewhere (can't remember where) that Rotties are sesitive to the heat, and that they can easily get heat stroke. In your experience is this true? I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere. I only heard it from one source, so I don't really trust it yet.

It is absolutely true, in particular with dogs who have heavy bone, substance, and/or extreme head type. The black coat, which can be very dense, combined with heavy body mass and bone, shorter muzzle, and larger topskull makes for a dog that does not tolerate heat well at all.

I have seen several dogs fall over at shows over the years in the heat.

The endurance test (AD) will not be run if the outside temperature will be over 70F at any time during the test.

My dogs are indoors if the temps will be above 90F.

I just wanted to send good luck wishes to you and the momma-to-be

Relatives of mine had a Rottie/Great Dane mix, and he was a wonderful dog.
I have already said this on another topic, but I thought I would tell about him

Sweet, sweet dog.Very loyal and would protect anything you would sit by him. Children, other young dogs, adults, chickens, etc. He wouldnt touch a thing. All you would do is stand guard and do the occasional lick to whatever he was protecting smile Sadly, he is deceased. He was a very big dog, built like a tank, easily over 150 pounds, looked more like a rottie, but his nose was shaped like a danes. He was more longer legged than a rottie too. He was a very special guy. He once saved a little girl. While she was walking in the grass, a water moccasin was right in front of her, but she couldnt see it. But Gator knew, he came tearing out from under the bushes, ran out and front of her and stood their growling and his hair standing up. The snake was the gotten rid of. He was a great guy, I will always remember that big ol' dog....

Sorry to go off topic, but I thought it would be okay to tell about my great Rottie experience

On ultrasound exam today, it appears that Penny is empty. Very disappointing news, of course, but we will move on from here with other plans.

Penny will be spayed later this spring.

Aw man no pups. Sorry to hear that. Do you mind me asking how much and ultrasound on Penny was?
