Whew! I'm so glad the 4th is over! Every year, this neighborhood, and the next one over, the teens (mine included), had the local famed 4th of July war. It's not what you think! No, I wasn't completely for this, but I also liked the peace.
When we moved here 9 years ago, I found out that they fire the big boomers at each other. Can you imagine young girls running from these teen boys? Now, can you imagine your hair having some sort of hair gunk in it that doesn't need fire around it? (Our neighborhood is low-income, world-wide population mixed). Ok! I kept my children inside until 9:45pm, and then we'd go as a group to the little neighborhood park, to sit on the slides and watch Louisville, KY fireworks from home, as I didn't feel like walking the 45 minute walk to the river to see these.
Mind you, we still got fired at, but we still went to the playground.
When my two oldest sons got old enough to have jobs, they quickly stored up ALOT of "ammo", for the 4th of July war. I forgot to add they also got alot of practice playing Halo, also. My boys became the leaders, organizing who carried whatever in backpacks, who hung back, etc.... into two groups. No more would our neighborhood be terrorized by teens from stupidity school. Our neighborhood boys took this seriously, in a playful way. Our neighborhood won the 4th of July wars for 4 years straight.
That was the best 4 years of a kind of peace, we've had, until this year. Cops driving through, and since my third son has had to help us out with most of the bills this year, this neighborhood has went right back to the early years. My youngest son, I've sent to spend the night in Louisville with a close friend, and my youngest daughter has had to stay indoors, until my oldest daughter took her down to the river to see the fireworks. Like I said, I'm so glad it's over!
