The Front Porch Swing

Oh yeah and since it was such a beautiful day, I spent it taking spring pics of all my kiddos. Nothing makes me smile more than pictures of my kids. Did I mention my oldest will be 16 in a couple months!??! At 33 yrs old, I am not old enough for this! She is ready for her license and I am not lol.
I became the grandmother to two amazing little baby boys in May and November 1998 - and I was born in December of 1950! That meant I was 37 when I became a gramma! And look at me now - a wizened up old lady who welcomed her first great-grandson a year ago.

Ain't life grand?

I better not be a grandmother at 37!! I know my mama said the same thing, but I've tried hard to break the cycle and not let my daughter fall into my footsteps and be another 'bad' statistic. But should she make those same choices, I will choose to love her through it and be the best grandma ever! So far, she still think boys suck eggs, so I'm good for a while lol

Both of my daughters were married and on their own before the boys came, so it was all good! My son and daughter-in-law were married 11 years and had given up when Katie came along, followed by another surprise 5 years later in the form of our beloved Kendra. I remember wondering when the first boys came along what God was thinking making me a gramma at 37. I found out - I ended up raising my middle daughter's two children due to her illness, and He just wanted to make sure I was young enough to handle it!

Oops, and speaking of grandkids, I totally forgot that I was going to post this last night. Took Jenny to the doctor, and Miss Kendra was having a great time in the waiting room - she can get that chair going. She gets excited and because she's stronger on the left side than the right (or is it vice-versa?) she often goes in wide circles. So today was the first time she deliberately steered the chair straight over to something that caught her eye, got it off the table, and then settled back to enjoy it. All it took was that one time - after that she'd drop whatever she had and go get herself something else to play with. Yippeee for Kendra!!!

Beekissed,

Wow -- this is a busy thread. Back in the 60s and 70s, Lady Bird Johnson began a program of hiway beautification here in Texas. One of the things they did was to plant Texas wild flowers along all the major roadways. Right now the bluebonnets are in bloom, as are the Indian paintbrushes. Soon will be the red (crimson) clover and the firewheels. The DoT does not mow the median or along the edge of the hiway as long as the wildflowers are in bloom, because most of them are annuals that must reseed themselves. Texas hiways are indeed a sight in spring. I've planted our meadow in wildflowers as well. We have quite an assortment, and I follow the DoT's mowing schedule.

Mmmmmmmm....and guess what I have in my freezer?? :) You can find rhubarb at Kroger's and HEB stores.

Bee, when the Bluebonnets come out people from all over come to see them. You are going down the road around a curve and you are hit with these beautiful flowers. You get used to people pulling over to the side to take pictures. I have seen the elderly sitting in the midst of them just laughing. Children are running around having a good time. It is a wondrous sight!

Well howdy Balloonjuice! Would you like some Sweet or Unsweetened tea? Pull up a Rocking Chair, hay bale, bucket, or wherever you want to plop down. We have all kinds of goodies over there by Bee. We have several good bakers here and wait till you hear some of the stories.

Where abouts are you from? I am thinking the hill country since you have the bluebonnets. I am from Rosenberg (SW of Houston).

Lisa :)

Lisa, we are in Kaufman county, about 60 miles south of Dallas in Styx, TX (pronounced Stikes, not sticks). Styx consists of a dozen farms and a Church of Christ. My daughter in law says there is no such place, that it's just a sign along the road. I tell folks we're so poor in Styx that we can't afford to buy a vowel.

Anyway, there are in full bloom right now in Kaufman county, but not as gorgeous as the Indian Paintbrushes. I'll see if I can capture a good shot and upload that one as well. And I can't believe a fellow Texan even has to ASK whether I want my tea sweet. Until I was in the military in the 60s, I thought sweetea was all one word!

Hi,

RachaelS, this is not directed at you. You had apologized (even tho I don't think you said anything wrong). Ms. Jellybean is leaving BYC. She was attacked on the Texas thread again....why? Because she doesn't have any chickens yet. She has planned and plotted to get her birds and then things happen. She is a single mom raising 2 or 3 boys. We all have been in this situation where your goal is to get a new washing machine, etc. Then the car breaks down or the roof springs a leak and you can't get the washing machine. This lady has had her share of problems this year. Bam, Bam, Bam She keeps picking herself back up and stays positive. I am just upset that people can be so cruel. I love every person on this "Front Porch'. You guys are great or 'the cat's meow'!!

I am trying to get her to come back to the 'Front Porch'.

Bee, thank you for the prayer. We need them every day and every hour.

Lisa :)

I hope Ms Jellybean is doing okay. The world would be a much better place if more people were like Mizz TexasLisa -always positive and ALWAYS showing the love of Christ. Maybe one of these days if I pay attention you'll 'learn' me something! :)

:thumbsup

Lady Bird started a wonderful thing! Looks like a lot of other states would have followed her lead. That makes me want to do the same around my place.
