The Front Porch Swing

Never, never, never gonna grow my hair past my ears or buy a dress. Enough said.

Welcome to the porch.  I don't know about yours but mine is iced this morning in Louisiana.     :lau

Wish I had a front porch to judge, haha! It's 37* out and the flock has made it's way to the patio, looking for an early meal, no doubt. The chicks in the quick-fix brooder box I made are doing pretty well considering the drop in temperature within the box. It's still warm, just not as warm.

Now I gotta hide in a throw blanket until the cold passes. I'm used to tropical temps and cold doesn't work for me, haha!

I don't like the conversations that happen when people try to control the way women look. Women in particular ... we are subject to more control in this area ... but all people can cut/color their hair (or not) and dress (or not) as they please as far as I'm concerned. All I ask is that they bring a towel to sit on and that we allow them to make their own decisions.

IF a patriarch ever told me my looks were making him have impure thoughts or distracting him or insulting him, it would probably be about the last words we exchanged. It is much too short a step from any level of that to the idea that women shouldn't be seen at all.

It makes me extra sad when "they" get us women tut-tutting/snarking at each other.

This whole thing is one of the oldest tricks in "their" book.

you got that right TW and we don't see each other boobs and up each others clothes here either like we do in church. Yep HUGE pet peeve of mine and I just have problems with going to church where women dress like this and it's gotten really bad. The clothing is sooooo tight you can see the print of their panties and see the crack of their butts and everything. I can't help but wonder what God thinks because of us suppose to be dressing modishly. When a preacher has to tell his congregation of women they need to cover their tops up because he can't pray for them at the alter for seeing down their clothes then something is bad wrong. :( OK I am off my soap box.

Yeah we are being judged because we don't go but that's between us and God. :)

That's funny....but sad. I agree....a person needs to use some common sense about what they wear for any occasion, not just church. But, I don't normally pay too much attention to the other folks and what they wear except in passing, just random thoughts like, "Ooo, she looks pretty this morning!"

what great pictures love the fun with the sacks.

X2 Makes me miss and long for when my kids were little and giggly and had fun doing simple things like playing in a pile of leaf bags.

Ok here is a pix of Me

hair is salt and pepper.... Been that way for about ten years now....

Why, Deb! You're beautiful!!! I wish I had a smile that pretty...my mouth doesn't turn upwards when I smile so it always looks like I'm frowning even when I'm grinning. You look and smile so much like my Grandma Ruby when she was young...so ornery and happy.

@Deb... You're perdy! Beautiful smile.
smile.png

That's what I thought!

I dont under stand it either.... Used to be when you worked in an office you dressed conservatively... No see through tops or bottoms No Camel Toe pants, No skirts up to your Hoo Hoo. No thong that shows itself everytime you bend over...And Gawd the Stilleto heels I saw a lawyer running in those one time..... Heaven forbid someone wears that crap to Church. If I were 20 something and had a great figure I might wear some of that... To a party.... or out dancing..... Not to church OR work.

I felt bad the last time I went to a church. My girlfriend asked me why I didint wear a dress. Not in my repertoire.... Last dress I owned was 25 years ago. Haven't been back. I was just there to see if I liked the minister in hopes to make some friend and possibly Identify with something.

Come to think of it I rarely see my "friend" any more.... Known her for 35 years... oh well.

deb

I'm not real big on dresses either...the most I'll do is a comfy, stretchy skirt that has slits up the sides but comes down to my ankles. I used the same skirt for years until it got so thin you could see through it!

Still have it...can't bear to throw it away. Don't wear it out in public anymore though. It was the only dress I had to wear to church so sometimes I wore it, but mostly pants. I feel like if I'm dressed modestly and it's clean, it's perfect for church.

I wore a flannel shirt to church once and one of the more nasty ladies asked me if I was going to work because that looked like a work shirt. I replied, "Yep! I'm going to work...it's a constant job to mind my own business!" Her mouth popped open, then shut, then she stomped off to "her" pew.

Whoo, just made it through 2073 posts, haha! I hope you don't if I join everybody on the porch.

I'm still a bit green when it comes to chicken keeping and reading through this thread sure has gotten me motivated to get crackin' on some my side projects. Already I've sketched out plans for my garden and I've started fermenting layer feed, haha! This year is already turning out to be a good one for the flock and I'm sure it's God's blessing that is making everything so wonderful.

So glad you came!!!

Hello from central Ohio. I wasn't going to post until I read the whole thread, but you guys are so chatty. Hi, Bee. Missed your wisdom for along time, Glad I found this thread.

So nice to have you!

We have drinks and food, so help yourself! Be mindful of sitting next to the honeysuckle as the bees are really working it right now and you may get buzzed.

I work at WAL~MART, so my pay scale is not great. But when I found out the local dog warden makes less money (and has less benefits) I went back to my WV ways.....

S S S works every time.

Calling animal control got me monetary compensation and cleaned up the "wild pack of dogs" that was terrorizing the neighbor hood. But, it also caused a lot of red neck, arrogant, ignorant trailer trash type people to hold a grudge against me. I am a single female.......not a good situation to be in.

Been there...not comfortable. Called animal control but they did nothing but then the neighbors knew who had called so they intensified their dog pack and allowing them to harass us and our property...even went so far as to tie one on the property line and let it bark continually..well..until it got shot by a BB gun each time it barked and it soon stopped.

Then I shot one of the dogs for digging into my trash but they didn't actually get to see it. They called the police on me...nothing came of it, but suddenly they were keeping their dogs at home and they finally all moved further down the road.

I think they would have done more but I think it surprised them that a woman actually shot their dog...a running shot at 75 yds..and was accurate. Think it made them afraid to mess with me anymore. I had never actually spoken with these people face to face but I think the gun did all the talking that was needed.

I agree! It's just a distraction and doesn't mean anything. People are to be viewed as they are viewed through God's eyes and not our own.

My mother's generation is real bad for always picking apart how people look, from their weight to their hair to their clothes. And loudly...in line at the grocery store. It's embarrassing and makes me sad for her that she compartmentalizes people in her mind by appearance...I have to remind her, "Mom, you are standing with a fat person!" and she'll say, "Oh, you're not THAT big...that's just awful!" and my heart breaks all over again for her, for me and for the other person.

I'm human and my mind goes there on occasion, just like anyone else, but it doesn't linger nor does it form my opinions on that person's life....no one knows their story and it's the story that matters, not the cover of the book.

I'm with you ... COFFEE! I had a dog on one side of my bed last night, two cats on the other. The covers were so trapped I couldn't even squeeze under between them. I tried to scrunch up across the top with just a corner of the blankets, but only succeeded in making myself cold, sore and cranky. I think the pets want the protection of the big bed because we're having a loud wind storm with driving rain.

And before you all scold me for "letting" the animals take over my bed ... have you ever tried to lift a comfortable cat? Those things weigh a ton! The dog is even heavier when he's determined to stay put. I was up late working on projects and just didn't feel like arguing when it was time to collapse. Tonight the bed is mine.

We got more snow last night than we have had in a good while. It is really pretty! But I sure did get a workout feeding this morning. LOL I bet it took me 20 minutes just to get the door of the rooster pen open. The Ancona come out to see what was going on and supervise and the snow was so deep it looked like he didn't have any legs and was just scooting along! hahahaha I had to dig my dog out of his pen. I could only get the door preyed open about 8 inches for him to squeeze his 50lb hiney through. lol We had sleet ALL DAY yesterday so everything was froze down in it then at least 6 inches of snow on top of that. But all is good. We still have electricity which is a huge blessing!
