The Front Porch Swing

Woot, I'm so excited! I'm going to the feed and farm store tomorrow to purchase a couple more chicks to add to the brooder box. I want to have a good amount of late-summer laying pullets and maybe I will have a couple extra that I can sell, God willing.

:weee

I got so much work done today, though! I finished my internship and came home to finish painting an egg. My sister's cockatiel laid an egg and she told me to blow it out and paint it, funnily enough, haha! I told her it'd have to wait until tomorrow when I have more time. I didn't want to tell her that I'm afraid the egg will be too small to blow out, haha! :lau

Here are some pics of my newest painted egg! So excited about it!

A lot of time went into it. I'd like to hang it on the porch, if y'all don't mind. It looks lovely in the sunset. :)

I don't have geese, haha! I want to paint duck eggs, but my ducks don't lay very often and my sister always gets to them first before I have a chance to blow them out. It's a race to get them first, hehe!

I don't personally know anyone with goose eggs, but I'm rather fond of my chicken eggs. There are so many unique shapes and shades, speckled and solid colored, that there is often enough variety for me to be satisfied. I still have about 15 more eggs to get to before I have to blow out a few more. :)

Welcome to the front porch!
Snow tomorrow here, just had a snow storm blow through Monday night. They were forecasting 5 to 8 inches for us, we got 2.
yesss.gif

We have had over 60 inches of snow so far this winter, normal at this time is 32". Most snow storms are followed by days of 40 degree temps so snow doesn't stick around for long. Only snow left is the snowdrifts that will be around till April. Almost 60 degrees today and the ground is getting mushy - which means that the frost is coming out. Flocks of geese have been flying over the last couple of days.
Yep, spring is coming.

Well, DH just called, another house that he wanted to look at just accepted an offer. This one had been on the market for 163 days, I have convinced DH to focus on getting land over a nicer house so he is looking at listing we haven't searched for before.. That makes 4 in the last month that were on the market for over 100 days, but sold within 24 hours before we asked to view it.

Anyone looking to sell a place, let us know. You will get an offer before I have a chance to call my realtor for a viewing, guaranteed! ha ha

DH loves sitting around a campfire - I am the person who always has the smoke blowing in their face, no matter where I sit. We really don't feel safe having an outdoor fire out here in the prairie, with our winds and dry grass it is a disaster waiting to happen.

That is a pretty egg.  You have some talent there.

Thank you! It's definitely a labor of love, but I enjoy it so much. If only there was more of a local market for them, it would make it easier for me to keep the flock sustainable. What I've found out is that people see them and want them, but they don't want to pay more than $5.

Of course, they take about 4 hours to complete. I love getting all Zen when doing them. It helps me get to sleep late at night. Mixing paints is therapeutic, for sure.

Oh, yes!!!  Do give us pics...we lovum da pics!  :love    TW wants us to have this celebration when winter is over to celebrate spring....she'll have to tell us when she considers spring has sprung!  :gig
It's still winter here too. About 4-5 inches of snow on the ground and MUD where it's melting. But thank God it is warming up! I believe "official" spring is less than 2 weeks away.
Around here it's still winter...sorta...still in teens and twenties at night and thirties to forties in the days....BUT..the robins are coming in, I've heard bird song staking out territories already, my chickens are tearing up this yard like crazy and there's a softness to the air and the nights, even when it's cold.  I think spring is just a breath away......  :weee

And I've got my tackle box all stocked..just need to put on new line and make up some leaders....I'm ready.
I hope I get the chance to fish some this year. But I'll probably be lucky to get to go to the store and get fish sticks. LOL

Ya oughta make your...ahem...sister give you another break and take that nephew of yours fishin'.

Nothing like draggin' a line to give you time to think, talk to God, and work out things in your heart. I like it better than hunting because you can do things with your hands...or not, if you want to just let things float. Soak up some sunshine(and Vit. D), listen to the stream....oh, it's all so peaceful!

We've got a fishing trip planned with the boys up in the mountains in May. Will be grillin', fishin', and relaxin' for four days.

We don't often get times like that when everyone is together anymore, so this is a blessing straight from the Lord!

That is going to be the best part of moving back to Wisconsin. Wonderful fishing! I miss the bluegills and bass. I discovered I am not a big fan of trout, and trout is about all you can find, when you can find a place to fish, out here in Wyoming.
