The Front Porch Swing

There is nothing like a good friend!

I had a frizzle bantam cochin that I absolutely loved she was the sweetest chicken. She decided to go broody about 9 months ago so I let her hatch several eggs and she was a very good mother. When the babies were about 3 or 4 days old somehow, never could figure out how, a skunk got into the nursery pen where she was and killed her and all the babies. I have wanted another frizzle ever since but just could not find one within driving distance. I have a friend that she and I email each other daily and she knew how bad I wanted a frizzle hen and she has tried to help me find one to no avail. She emailed me yesterday and the conversation went something like this, " you know those 3 new baby banties that I got at TSC a couple weeks ago?, the ones with the fuzzy feet........ you are not going to believe this but they are frizzles and one is a pullet and I want to give her to you". She was right I couldn't believe what I had read. We both had been looking for frizzles for so long and she had just unknowingly stumbled into purchasing three! I drove right over and picked up Matilda the frizzle.

Now that is a true Friend! Thanks Cheryl!!!!!!

aweeee sooooo cute! My sis lives in OK. Yukon I think is what it is.

G'morning everyone! I fell asleep a bit early last night after, so it's hard to sleep in past 7:30, haha! That and with my work schedule this week, well, I've got to keep the momentum going!

I got paid this week! $350 went straight to the bank, more than half going to the savings account for taxes and student loan payments. I don't even mind, though. If I put away that much every week, I'll be able to pay off my loans within a year! Good enough for me!

I got to purchase some chick starter for my babies and I ended up being weak and let my sister snatch up three TSC ducklings. They were so cute, though, and they had only one khaki Campbell and a some Swedish ducklings. We couldn't resist!

Today I'm going to get to work a bit early. First I need to start working in the garden and pulling out some good soil from the coop to start my seeds. Afterwards, I need to pick up a couple bales of hay and a local ranch is going to sell me some chicks. I'm going to replace my bantam Cochin and this lady has some beautiful chicks.

Dad is still really sad whenever he goes out to the backyard. He used to go outside and look at the trees, but now, he realizes that he looks for our little partridge Cochin. I can't truly replace her, but I can hopefully fill the void with a couple sweet birds.

Ladies and gentlemen
