Change of plans for this evening. Spilled scalding water on my hand/ wrist and arm. Sooo we have it in ice water to try and dull the pain.
I'm in Morrstown. Near ST.C or Barnsville. But yeah I know where Cambridge is and all the other places.ChickenBoy, What town are you in? I am outside of Zanesville. Between New Concord and Cambridge.
oh how neat! So excited for you and I know the lady feels good knowing they got a good home. Bless her hear though for having to get rid of them. I have thought about how much I would like to raise heritage RIR's but I am a lil attached to my chickens. lolGuess who just got gifted with a couple beautiful birds...for FREE?
The owner was being forced to get rid of them by the town and I had to jump on it. They are beautiful and though I was willing to pay for them, the lady admitted she didn't want money. She used the price, though, as a way of determining who was willing enough to invest in her babies. She mostly wanted them to have a good home. In the end, she gave them to me (though I did have to drive 25 minutes to get to her) and told me that if she found her missing bantam Cochin (one of the birds I also wanted), she'd drive to her to me.
Little leaps of faith really lead you to lovely people. This woman clearly loved her birds and I'm just glad I can give them a home.
The little hen is broody and has about seven little bantam eggs under her with a week left on them. A couple aren't showing any signs of development but I saw at least three with something inside. If nothing hatches in the next week and a half, I'm gonna get some quail eggs and let her hatch them out. She's so tiny; she can actually hatch them without crushing them!
We now have three broody hens in the nesting boxes. Gracie is on 9 Muscovy eggs, Grace is on 9 mystery duck eggs, and a nameless red game mutt is on 9 little game/mystery eggs. The little nameless hen is young, so if she's a good mother like her mother before her, we'll name her and put her on the list of go-to hens for broodiness.
So excited! This influx of broodiness should give us a break on the large amount if eggs for a little while. I'm gonna make a lemon meringue pie!![]()
Just checking in real quick before I head for bed. Leaving here about 5 am, so it'll be a long day tomorrow. She's doing pretty well. Been up and walking. Had several bouts of atrial fibrillation today but that's not uncommon for someone just out of bypass surgery, especially for a patient on dialysis as well. So while I'm not ready to leave, I feel comfortable going home. Katie and Evan will be thrilled. Chicken chores have worn a little thin. LOL
