The Front Porch Swing

sorry its so prevalent here. A tweaker is someone who use Methamphetamines.... or Meth. Tweakers use it constantly through the day to keep them speeded up. Back when it first came out it was called Speed. Meth that is sold around here is nothing like speed.

To look at them they will be somewhat thin and in constant motion. Often times with a runny nose because thats how they take it in by sniffing it. They talk alot too. A long time user will begin to loose his teeth because the last little bit of the "line" gets swiped up by a finger and rubbed on their gums. That and the bad diet because they forget to eat and drink.

There are some that can be functional like a functional Alcaholic. Then there are some that just only exist long enough for their next dose.

There are quite a few women who use it for weight loss. 30 years ago I gave it a try for about a week. At first it was like drinking two cups of really strong coffee. Finally I was standing on my kitchen counters washing the walls near the ceiling with a wash cloth. The part that scared me was I really liked it alot. Scared me so much I have never done it again.

And I know quite a bit about it all because I used to be in love with a cocaine addict. They have some of the same charactiristics.

That show's how dumb I am. I understood from your original comment that a tweeker was someone with OCD and things had to be perfect. You know, keep tweeking until it's right. I'm Waaay behind times.

Edited to Add. the drug tends to accentuate perfectionism in work.... The ones I have met that were working seemed to have OCD where their projects are concerned. The fellow working for me when he cut a tile if it wasnt perfect he would have a fit and toss it out the door and start another.

That explains a lot! We have those here too but I've never heard the term....most just call them Meth Heads. You can see them walking the streets, rail thin, bad skin, no teeth. It's a sadness that is creeping into our state, even in the most poor regions, because it can be had fairly cheap around here from what I understand.

Glad I'm not the only one.

And may we STAY behind the times....or ahead of them, depending upon how you look at it.

Soo Happy for all of you!!! Congratulations!!! Beautiful Granddaughter!!
Want to give you all an update on my DIL Stephanies benefit this past weekend. GOD IS SO GOOD!!
bow.gif
The outpouring of support and love was sooo overwhelming and humbling!! They raised an enormous amount for her!! So much more than we ever dreamed!!! This if from a very small community in a sleepy little hollow of sw Ohio. No big money here, at all!! Just Big Hearts! They had a live auction, and people were beyond generous. Some would pay hundreds of dollars for an item and then donate it back to be auctioned off again. My granddaughters 5th grade class donated a gift basket worth over $200 and it brought more than that. One of her classmates painted a picture of a fluffy dandelion, with the fluff being blown. You would not think it to be made by a 5th grader, it was sooo good! He called it "My Wish". His wish is "that Stephanie would have a successfull lung transplant"! It was bought by a very generous gentleman, then donated back and then I bought it!

It is beautiful!! That little boy gave up a new bike he was saving for, to donate. There was such an interest in his art, that he is going to paint some more pics and people are going to pay him for them. He already has the bike he was saving for. Another "God thing" story. A dear friend of ours prayed and told the Lord she wanted to do something special for Stephanie. She kept going in the room where she had an heirloom quilt hanging on the wall. She felt this is what the Lord would have her do. She wanted it to go for $1000, and she told the Lord she would make up the difference of what the quilt would bring. Well, that quilt brought sold for $850! She was so happy, even though it was very hard for her to part with the quilt. It was made by her great aunts, and after they passed, it went to her mother, and it hung in their home for many years, and then passed to my friend. The people who bought the quilt go to church with us. So on Sunday morning, they brought the quilt and gave it back to her!! Her testimony was this, when we give and obey the Lord, He always gives back so much more!! Several people at church that couldn't make it to the benefit, and there were a hole lot of them that came, handed me envelopes, checks, cash to give to her. I'm still overwhelmed, and so, so thankful to my faithful God!! I try to be thankful everyday for all of His blessing, because I have been blessed beyond measure!!! But when I see the hand of God work in such a mighty way, I'm always so surprised!!?? Why is that!!?? I see His mighty hand in my world everyday. Praise His Holy name! Halleluia! I don't want you all to think I'm just praising my God because of just this blessing! My God is good all the time!! We are in for some highs and some lows in this journey we will walk with our Stephanie, but we will trust and believe, praise and worship, no matter what the outcome! His ways aren't our ways, and His thoughts aren't our thoughts! Sorry for the long post, but I feel like shouting from the rooftops!!!

This is amazing. Our God is faithful and is full of blessings.

I finally got a chance to take a couple pictures of the new Muscovy ducklings. Only two hatched but the hen seems awfully pleased with herself. As she should be, of course, considering how long she sat on those eggs!

I wish I could take pictures of the other five ducklings we hatched, but they keep avoiding me, haha! I'd love help identifying them, but we'll just have to wait and see how they feather out. Two have little top hats and I have no idea what breeds they are or if they are the offspring of my own ducks. It's significantly harder to identify ducklings breeds than it is to discern the parentage of the chicks. A puffy-cheeked, slated-legged naked neck chick is very obviously an EE/NN mix. A top-hatted grey duckling could be anything!

Oh well. The mystery makes everything a little more interesting, haha!

So cute!!!!!

Being good to my girls this evening. I had about 2 c of mixed chicken, noodles and 1/2 c dry rolled oats. Added water and made a mush. So I go out to the storeroom and add 1/2 scratch to beef it up a little. When I get to the coop of course they are dying to see me. I had it all on a foam plate and was going to dip and dab it out so everybody got some. Of course one of my Golden Comets butted her head up and knocked it out of my hand. Pandemonium I managed to get some back on the plate and fed out, but these girls are so greedy. I put a small scoop of ff out too.
Today I used 1 T of EM-1 in a gallon of water in a waterer and wetted down the whole coop. It should start fermenting the floor and making it healthier. This is an idea I got from pdirt. I'm also going to start doing it in the garden to amend the soil.. Tomorrow I'm going to start adding shavings and peat and start it going good. They don't seem to be affected by the heat at all.
Tonight I going to do a candling to see if any of the SBEL's made it after the awful first day of extreme spiking of temps before I brought into the house. I really don't expect any to be alive but it was practice for when my good eggs come tomorrow. We'll see. I'm tired. It's been a busy day for me.

So several hundred posts/pages probably just a few minutes ago someone was asking about leek recipes?

I'm working on one tonight I thought I'd share. My vegetarian son is home for the summer so I better get creative. This recipe is based on Rosti, that potato pancake thingy. I just add leeks. The potatoes are grated and the moisture squeezed out and the leeks are finely chopped. Mix, put in frying pan, fry, flip, serve with chives and sour cream. Because this recipe is basically Rosti with a Welsh overlay (leeks are the Welsh national veg) I'm gonna call this recipe Rrrrrrrrosti. Roll those 'r's!

So I had to run out after 5 to get some feed, I had dumped the last of it into the FF bucket and fed it this morning. Not a full serving, but still SOMETHING. My chickens free range all day, so it's not like they were deprived, right? Wrong. I got charged as I was walking down the hill. You would think they all had their crabby pants on. Something just not right in the flock chemistry. The brown leghorns were fighting amongst themselves. Sandy, the EE, was bossing everyone around. Poor Lucky was ducking for cover. Even the rooster was scarfing down the second I put the food down. MJ hopped out of her nest and was interested in eating, so I opened her crate door. Better the broody poop happen outside where I don't have to clean it up. Well, in all her grouching around the watering hole, she decided to pick a fight with the crabby leghorn (#2…#4? Had to be #3, I remember it had a smaller comb). Now, I had my doubts as to whether she would be a good momma. She tends to be a bit submissive… or avoids confrontation. WOW. Now that was a battle. All I could do was stand there with my mouth open. They flogged each other, grabbed each others combs (or feathers in MJ's case). They were more aggressive toward each other than my mean Roo has ever been to me! And just like that it was over like nothing happened.

Welcome to the porch, Alice28!

Seems like forever since anyone brought treats - how about some warm brownies with vanilla ice cream. I've got a chocolate craving.

I have rhubarb sauce
big_smile.png
Sadly, My plant is quite green so the sauce isn't that lovely shade of pink Grandma used to make.

LJ, I agree....it sure does work to have a man around to handle mechanics, contractors, etc. Why is it that men~in this day and age~think women cannot handle such things and so they just talk over top of you or try to bully you into things?

Leslie can tell you a story about some people at Home Depot. If the customer knows more than you do, SHUT THE F UP. And don't EVER treat a customer, male or female, knowledgable or not, like they are idiots.

I had no idea either. Guess I don't hang with the 'right' crowd

Got meth here as well, I think it is all over the country. Not unusual to hear on the news that another "meth lab in the basement" burned down a house.
