The Front Porch Swing

Good evening porch swingers. Hope everyone well.
Peeps are now 2 weeks old and have figured out that they can squeeze through the fence in the run. Mama hen has a clucking fit but peeps just keep on cruisin'. UGGGHH gonna have to put some netting up to keep them in.

I'm having some issues with mine. Thin shells and recently a few with REALLY pale yolks. I suspect my white rocks... their legs are ghostly pale, which is a sign they're running out of pigment. They're eating their usual stuff, but I don't think it's enough to keep up with their output. One of them went broody on me and she's been breaking eggs with her butt, trying to sit on them. The thin shells are a nightmare for her. I just got some eggs from someone else and put them in a crate for her... She took to them right away so yay for that. Now.. what the heck am I going to do with more chicks?

The same thing happened to me today. My 2 day olds are in a metal dog cage and they can get through like water. I went into the house to get some saran wrap for the bottom and when I came back 2 min later, 8 of the 11 were out on the grass walking around. It's a good thing the cat wasn't around.

Gotta wrap the 4' by 6' dog kennel so I can put them in when it's warm enough at night. They are back in the storeroom now. I'm so tired. Those teeny tiny little critters are a lot of work.

Mine thought it was really cool to fly over the chicken wire. Course they were crazy trying to get back in where the others were, but after a few times of this I just took the chicken wire down and let them out with the bigs. Funny but my cats don't give two hoots about these chickens that have invaded their backyard.

Woo hoo! Having a late supper here in Arkansas. Red beans and rice, soft fried potatoes and tried an eggplant tapa that is YUMMY! What did y'all have for supper?

Hubby came home after working all day and worked on the duck shed and cleaning up around our shed! I've got such a good man!

Dad and I were just chatting about how we've got about 16 eggs in the bator and we have no plan for them, haha! I decided that whatever hatches out of there will probably be put up for sale. It looks like mostly just Australorp chicks and a couple mutts.

Of course, I'm keeping those Silkie seramas and the silkies if they do hatch, haha! For all I paid for them, at least ONE should hatch, I hope. I'm probably gonna candle the eggs in a couple days just to see if anything is cooking in there. I hope I've done everything right. I've never used an incubator before.

I had my little cage on the utility cart with walls. So I could move them around to stay in the shade. I moved them to the big coop and let everybody look at each other. It was amazing.
