The Front Porch Swing

I buy 2lbs of butter all the time and never get a second look....maybe it's cause I'm heavy anyway

Or maybe I just don't pay that much attention to the cashiers. Bought 10lbs of ground beef yesterday, no reaction, she just rang it up. I shop sales and stock up on things all the time so those types of purchases aren't unusual for me at all.

I'll buy 4 or 5 boxes of stick butter at a time, they must just figure I bake a lot. ;)

When we were on college I would get our meat from the ag schools butcher shop, they did give me funny looks about buying 10 lbs of ground beef at a time. I suppose most 19/20 year old college students don't buy in bulk though

With all the multi-vitamins being popped in America, you think they would mention that many vitamins are fat soluble and with a no-fat diet you will not get full benefit from those pills you are buying. Also, you need Vitamin D to properly absorb calcium.

partially hydrogenated fat.... The process makes fat solid at room temperature.... it also changes the molecular structure in a bad way for health.

so any vegitable fat that stays pretty much stable and not melting at room temperature is a bad guy....

The only one that is good is Coconut oil...

the following is from http://www.coconutresearchcenter.org/

Coconut oil is composed predominately of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), also known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCT). The vast majority of fats and oils in our diets, whether they are saturated or unsaturated or come from animals or plants, are composed of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA).

coconut oil melts at 76 degrees farenheit

this article explains the history and what they are

And I read recently that you should take Vitamin D after you eat because it doesn't absorb well otherwise. Really messes me up. I used to pop all my pills in the morning but not necessarily eat for an hour or two. So now I don't do the "D" and I forget later.

You can also get Vitamin D from the sun.
Every now and then when I am out in the yard I hold out my arms and look up to soak in some Vit.D I know they say bad bad bad but everything in moderation and our bodies were designed to produce vit D from sun rays.
Non believer? Google it. And then go take your Vitamin D....

Any way you can!

I'd like to be able to only keep coconut oil and olive oil in the house. DD buys veggie oil. Grrr.

I'm headed off to Guatemala tomorrow on a mission trip. We'll be doing feeding programs, eye glass clinic, teaching hygiene, and working with the children, and I will be doing soil testing, assessing their gardening routines, teaching intensive gardening and composting. Any of you who are so inclined, please pray for: safety, health, team unity. Specifically, my needs: I don't do heat well. Am just getting over pneumonia. Taking a soil test kit. Hoping it passes through customs without being confiscated. And Hubby who is so not a farmer will be taking care of my flock of 43 birds and my garden, fruit trees, etc. Between that and work, he'll have a very full schedule. He's my rock.
