The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

Background on Ding's (like that nick name?) eggs.

I packed and shipped them on Tuesday. They were handed off to the PO clerk in Tuscaloosa Alabama right at 5:30pm and arrived early this (Thursday) morning at Ding's local PO in Tennessee. I won't mention the city, that is up to Ding to share, or not. I didn't mark the box in any way (no "fragile," "hatching eggs," "live embryos," etc.) except to put her phone number on the outside with a note to call her for pick-up.

Did they call you?

I don't care if you tell my name and city @Wisher1000 and no they didn't call...I checked the tracking number and saw it was at my po, so I stopped on my way into work and the clerk went to get it...it was in the carriers jeep! And he was about to get in and leave! MY poor lil eggies woulda gotten blown away with the wind we are having today.

Granted I live in the boonies and my PO habdles mail for maybe 1500 people. I always call my po ahead of time when I have been expecting eggs.I tell them to hold any packages for the week then no mistakes. I just call them ask if I have any packages. I got 2 today turkey eggs just in foam 16 , 1 broke 3 cracked bad, 2 minor cracks finger nail polish applied to them . 10 looked great. Forgot to take pictures. And I got 8 maran eggs from Ca to Illinois all 8 in great shape . Bubble wrapped inside a box that was wrapped in bubble wrap. Not even a small crack . My toddlers swore they were candy so I had to hide them quickly.

i just got pics back from the lady i sent eggs to in CA and she said they were all great. so im guessing that mine and my dh idea worked at least for the 9 eggs we sent.

That is good news!

I like the foam idea. I love re using packing materials too.

Set the eggs Wisher shipped me around 5oclock today. I candled them and traced the air cells....I'm hoping I did it correctly. They are sitting in the bator on 99.6-100 and no water added for right now.... I'm hoping y'all can walk me thru so I don't screw up.

What is the humidity in your house and/or outside? Is the area where your incubator is located getting lots of humidity that can be controlled? You can put a bowl of uncooked rice in the bator to lower the humidity, but if it is temporary and because of the weather, I wouldn't bother.
