The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

I have hatches due on the 16th, 19th, and the 24th. These are the petting zoo eggs, Silver Campines, and my shipped Ameraucanas, respectively. In light of my power outage, should I delay putting them in the hatcher? I know that "lockdown" is debateable, and normally I wouldn't even worry about it, but this group is important to me (heh heh, aren't they all, right?)

I often wait until day 19 or when I see a pip in an egg. Waiting is not bad for moving them to the hatcher.

They may be a bit late but they could still be on time.

I hope a bunch of them hatch!

I would put them in the hatcher a day later. I do not believe that their development was retarded that much if at all. Better to be safe than sorry though.

This thread started with shipping eggs.I thought id add a free packing material i always use.Plastic grocery bags! they are soft but when balled up make a nice cushion for the eggs. Then bubble wrap each and stand uright in the center like a nest. more bags on top. Then wadded paper to fill it out
Nothing like recycling those multiplying bags.

Great tip, Roxanne!

It was, and is, about shipping and shipped eggs. The whole point in shipping eggs is to get chicks on the other end. We include the hatching portion so we can see if our efforts make improvements in the hatch rate of the eggs that were shipped.

We're glad you joined us!

I had 13 BA eggs shipped from AZ Monday by USPS Express, guaranteed 2 day delivery. They arrived this morning at 8:30am, 2 days late, but I did get my $53.50 shipping cost refunded. They were packed in a Medi-shipper, bubble wrap in bottom & on top. The Medi-shipper was full of saw dust around all of the eggs. They had obviously taken some hard hits from the condition of the Medi-Shipper.

2 eggs were cracked and leaking. I candled the remaining 11, 2 really had some funky looking aircells, but the other 9 looking surprisingly good. They are currently setting on the counter top, big end up settling and letting the temp stabilize. I am planning on putting them in the incubator in a few hours. Gonna leave the turner off for a couple of days.

Hoping for the best and will be satisfied with anything!

Dan
