The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

It has been a long while, but wanted to stop in and see what is happening on the shipping thread. We are getting a cold spell, and I am considering ordering some more eggs soon. I really want some blue barnevelders and BCM to work with in the spring.

Check with juststruttin here on BYC. I hatched out some discount eggs from her last Winter and two of the eggs were Blue Barnveldeners. She does a great job of packing and the chickens are great!

I've never posted on here but subscribed the other day because I ordered some Welsummer eggs on ebay. All arrived intact even the extras that were sent.

Here's how they arrived

Bubble wrap on top



Paper napkins and newspaper



under all the napkins was a nest made out of shredded paper with all 14 eggs bubble wrapped individually.


It was tedious cutting the bubble wrap from the eggs because I was worried I would break one but it seemed to work well since none were broken.



I had the guy write fragile live embryos on the box. My mail doesn't usually run until noon but the mail lady showed up at the house at 9 am with them.
I let them rest for 24 hours and set them last night in the incubator. Guess we'll see if any hatch

I just got 7 eggs I ordered from ohio, I live in washington state. the shipped it on thurs. and i got it on sat. all eggs were intact. here is pic with all eggs I am hatching in my homemade hatcher. hatched out 3 batches this year, this is largest of the 3. dark ones I bought on line

Who are they from and what breeds do you have there.

I love the speckled ones and of course the blue and green eggs.

dark ones are blue copper marans, first I heard of them! green ones are EE white one is brown leghorn/coco maran mix.

the blue marans I got on ebay. only ones I saw. the others I got from a friend and a farm down the road.

I have a blue marans. She lays eggs a lot like the ones you are hatching.

your hen is a beauty. I had wanted blue laced red wyandottes, then I found these on line. I said ... okay this satisfies my desire for blue and gives me a more colorful egg. coo coo marans were not this dark.

I have BLRW, blue breda fowl BBS Orps BBS Jersey Giants a splash marans blue andalusians and lavender orps in amongst barred rocks rir and some white guinea keets
