The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

Quote: I cant wait for the data to start coming in. I am excited oz! I think its great that you will take the time to collect this data and make sense of its madness for everyone. I have no doubt this will be accomplished and the data will be extremely useful to all of us.

If every egg got the same handing there would be no point in this.

The goal is to have enough eggs shipped to get an average of handing and remove that from the equation so we can drill down on packaging and the other variables.

Even if it show a technique is better by ten percent, that's a big impact on the way many people do business.

Most people would like to have a better hatch rate and would like to know what techniques have an advantage.

If we can show the Ron or wisher method of packing is statistically better then we have real data to present other shippers.

These guys that say they ship thousand of eggs in cartons with tissue without problem can be proven wrong.

To me it's common sense to do a study. I don't mind crunching data. It amuses me way more than tv.

Enough said.

I am sure it will be mind blowing and Earth shattering. I doubt I will be able to sleep. Can't wait!!

If any1 wants to send me some eggs to me here, at the psych ward; im game. I love eating bubble wrap, egg cartons, toilet paper (unused), wrapping paper (used or unused), pine bark nuggets, crawfish heads, loggerhead turtle shells, and heavy duty aluminum foil ( if i have lysol to chase it with). Hit me up. I would love to help

If my incubator wasn't already full I would say I was game for this as well. However I am full up until the 1st of May. I am always up for helping people out, and I enjoy hatching eggs out. I really would like to know the best way to ship eggs. It would be awesome to find that perfect way to send them to know they had a great hatch rate.

I am in, and happy to pay the cost of packaging and shipping.

My personal experience so far has been that the eggs wrapped in bubble wrap tubes, packed into a box with a layer of bubble wrap or styrofoam on the bottom, as wella s one between layers of eggs if more than one, surrounded by packing peanuts, and topped with bubble wrap or styrofoam, if the eggs were fresh when collected, have done the best. My hatching conditions are outside the norm, and I realize that affects my hatch rate; as well, I am led to believe the sorting facility in Denver can be treacherous.

I am willing to try post-shipping variances as well - I have a broody right now refusing to quit and would love to give her more eggs to sit on, so could split a shipment between her and the incubator, could let sit with no turning 1, 2, or up to 5 days, or could put directly into the turner.
