The gross truth about ducks...

TrystInn
If you oversleep the 8am alarm, the ducks will screech and cry until you come let them out of their pen. They will proceed to immediately exit the pen, sit down within a few feet and fall asleep for the next three hours.

Sure your ducks are not related to mine?? At least yours let you sleep until 8. Once the Chickens start at the crack of dawn here the ducks chime in also!

35. If you leave their food bowl empty for more than a few seconds they'll poop in the bowl as a form of protest.

36. If they see your hands has no food in it, they'll peck at it until you magically release food.

37. When you let them out of their pen to walk to the tub they'll stop midway and simultaneously poop on the floor. Or sometimes one of them will wait for you to clean up the first mess then they let out an extra big mess....

I just ordered 10 more ducks, you are making me regret it!!!

As a duck owner.....there is not one listed gross item that I would argue with anyone on. I guess you have to put the information out there and let would-be owners make their own desicion if ducks ARE for them!! (Definately not for the lazy person)

I'm excited for you Nettie on your upcoming website....I checked it out, looks great!!!!!

Since my ducklilngs were a day old, they would crouch down, back themselves up, lift the tail, and SQUISH! Out it comes. It sounds so gross... and my students are always so grossed out by it. It led to a grand conversation about how every living thing has to poo. Of course one my lowest students...(her IQ is in the teens and 20s) was very adament to tell me that she did not poo. That it was too gross, and girls just dont poo. She was dead serious...I said well some of the ducks are girls and they still poo...she looked at me and said, yeah but ducks are gross! I couldnt find a reasonable answer to argue with her.

If you have cows (or horses or any other animal that poos) the ducks will make a beeline for a fresh pile to stick their bills in as deep as possible and squiggle it around until they find some grain that didn't get digested - they will leave their own food dish and race each other to be the first one to it.
