The Hatch That BYC Built (aka Frieda vs. the Brinsea!) (Warning--pic heavy)

All of them were decidedly yellow, not silver (except for my little penguin, of course)--it's just that the surviving chick also has an orange back.

Could the fact that the aircells in the incubator eggs got bigger than the aircells in Frieda's eggs have anything to do with survivability? Tbough there was not really a visible size difference between the survivor and the others at hatch, that I recall. Then again, it was the same size as the others when it joined them, and they were a couple days older...

Gah, I can't explain what I mean very well... all the chicks are yellow, of course, it's just something I see besides the yellow... under direct light the very tips of the down are clear/whitish/silverish and on others it's a goldish/orangish very light tint... it's really subtle...

I think air cells had more to do with the hatchability and the one that hatched under Frieda had better survivability just cuz it was hatch outside and not in a warm house and warm bator... it was partially adapted to being outside already... make sense?

I haven't managed to find a friend yet Both feedstores stopped selling chicks a couple weeks ago, and won't be getting more until late January/early February. I've checked the 3 local CLs, and responded to the one ad that I don't know for sure is 2 hours away. I've also placed wanted ads on the 3 local CLs, as well as local FB chicken/animal groups I'm a member of. I've also posted on my FB page, in case someone I know knows someone.
