The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Here is a strain of very good Rhode Island Red large fowl Bill Bennett from Georgia.

He has breed them for over twenty years. Nice brick shape and color.

Does any one have his line if so please let us know.

Would like to see pictures of them.

Ad them to the top five strains in the USA.

Oh I know it I love that picture. I call it the "peas in a pod" picture. His call name on here is (pinegrove) but he hasn't been on in a long, long time or not posted anything anyhow but I'm like you Bob I wish the ones who have some of this "awesomeness" could/would post up on here and let us in on more info about them.

I private messaged him way back when Bob first mentioned him being in Georgia and never got an answer, still haven't gotten an answer from matt1616 either. I'm trying to find an official thread for that Clanton Show in October, since I work weekends I will have to put in for vacation and need exact dates. Ah well.

I'am looking for some Red eggs to hatch, do you have any? My email is [email protected]. Jim

In about 3to4 months you will have better luck at getting some eggs or chicks as of right now most heritage type birds are in molt or have slowed down for winter time reserve building/storing up their fatty deposits though out the body for the cool weather time. And too most of the big time breeders/suppliers of such stock have separated the breeders to give them a rest time and getting them in tune for next years breeding session.

As the fall shows approach one can find Heritage RIR pullets and cockerels for sale at shows from breeders. I like to do this because you can assess fully grown young birds yourself, don't have to raise a bunch of birds and then deal with culling them later. I'm going to the Ohio Lucasville show In October to do just that this year. You can contact breeders with well established lines have them bring you some birds and meet them at large or major shows.
Or wait till spring / early summer and have them send you chicks. Some people think this is the cheap way to go. I don't believe it. 1st- 1/2 of the chicks will be roosters. 2nd- some of them will die. 3rd you will have to feed them for 6months or more at $16.00 a bag to see if you have any show worthy birds. Then you will have the heart breaking task of getting rid of the birds you don't want to keep. To me it is much cheaper to just buy 3 or 4 birds that you know are right for you. Breed them and find someone with an incubator to hatch your eggs for you. A women that lives near me said she would do it for nothing if she had eggs of her own to hatch at the same time.

I know of no one that sells quality Heritage chicks at this time of the year. And many breeders never sell eggs, but do sell chicks.
The above is my opinion only but, I feel it is worth more than you will have to pay for it.
