The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

These eggs were purchased off an ebay auction. Inexpensively and just six eggs. I wanted to test my incubator and learn about raising good RIR traits before taking the plunge and investing in my dream flock of LF heritage chicks and eggs. It's a good beginning learning experience.

delisha, yes they are growing but not as big as jimmyjays are, lol. I moved them out to the coop since our weather has been nice this week. I kept their door open and they finally left the coop and went out into the run today. My RC is a little tank, call him Tanker.

These were taken under their overhead light and with a flash. They were just over 7 weeks old when I took the pics.

They are very pretty, look at that color.

The color is so nice..yeah..I was so worried. These chicks are only a few days old and getting feathers..I am checking each wing and making sure black is on every one!!

Don't stress to much about black in baby chick wing feathers. There will be a drastic difference in chick wing feathers, juvenile, and adult. Look for nice dark beaks and body feathers. Also in the best lines you will see the brick shape very early.

Yes they are nice bricks, dark beaks, and the feathering is just starting..It is not very dark in some parts, but in other parts it is very dark. Some of the chicks have a big difference in color, but, body shape is same. I see some really nice wide heads too. Love the big huge eyes too.

They look nice. I am really liking Mr. Tanker.

These are my Underwood chicks. They are out of the same stock as Penny's pictured above. One week difference in age. Mine are 9 weeks on these pictures taken this morning. I'm very pleased with these birds. Had 12 hatch and ended up with 6 RC and 6 SC. Three (almost positive) cockerels and 9 pullets.

Dang Jimmy they are looking soooo good. I am so happy with these birds. Mine are friendly but watchful, and inquisitive but alert, they were a bit confused when they first saw the pig and goat outside their run, though. It was funny to watch. I can't wait to see them when they are adults.

Nice looking birds Jimmmy..
How many eggs did you order to get 12 hatched? 12 is a really nice number to work with.
