The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

You need to put them under lights.

Mine are about the same age, same line and from the same person. I have three pens set up with one pullet in each pen. I'm getting about two eggs every other day from them. Mine have only been under lights now for about two almost three weeks. Before then I would only get one eggs every now and then.

Yes, I know. It will take a lot of extension cords. I don't want to burn the poultry house down! And like I told Matt, any extension cord that is not strung above ground needs to go inside a conduit of some sort or the packrats (wood rats) will chew it and ruin it. He said he doesn't have packrats in Alabama and all I could say is, Thank your Lucky Stars!!

Our first RC RIR chick to hatch just pushed out of the shell!

Any one on this message thread have Rose Comb Rhode Island Red eggs or Two week old chicks that you could ship to a beginner? I got a request for some today by email.

Thank you.

Hmmm. We have pack rats in Mississippi. There may be another name for them but I've found their nest in the loft of the barn. Have even shot a hold in the roof one time chasing one. They seem to like to collect dried horse manure and put in their nest and can make a general mess out of a perfectly decent storage building.

Ok Bob, NY Reds and others have any of you ever heard of Sunnysideupmicrofarm that have RoseComb Rhode Island Reds! their listing says "Our RC RIR are big and have great color and type. They are excellent layers of a large brown egg and their rose comb does not freeze as easily in the winter! Great free ranging, heritage breed original stock form Tim Bowles and Rick Bond." Just wondering as i saw an advertisement for this for eggs. They also have a web site.
