The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Dick Horstman or Gary Underwood might be able to help you. Or the lady that advertises in the Poultry Press.

Very late in the year to get some but try. I understand you pain with the rules on getting adult birds into Virginia.

Also, you might be able to pick up a good trio at Lucasville Poultry Show this Oct. Then bring them back to Virginia to your home.

Do you have to show the border patrol what you have in your car or truck when you come back from say Ohio?

Yep that's what he said mine are, the heritage ones. I thought they were. :)

They were 3 weeks old in these pix.

They're 5 weeks old now.

Look at the beak color to tell how dark they will be or if they are H Reds. Many are a half and half cross that is one male H mixed with Production females. There have been some on her over the years who swore they where the old fashion kind. The chicks at three months old would be very dark or almost black looking. Also look for the leg placement the top strains are dead center or Plum. Look at the picture next to my name. This ckl at age ten months was almost black when this picture was taken. His off spring are the old Mohawk line I use to have. Nice looking fellow otherwise. Enjoy your reds regardless what they are. You can always up grade if you are not happy and then you have the experience for future years for other birds.
