Penny you are a great student you took the words right out of my mouth.
This is a good looking guy and I would like to use his picture in a article I am putting together. This is a classic Production Red Male
this kind of fellow maybe not him but others are the kind that has given Rhode Island Reds a bad repetition of being mean. These males from the feed stores when this age have some kind of personality and want to spur and attach people mostly little children which is scary.
So if you ever read all the other R I Red experts that have this kind of chicken you may here this.
Normally old fashion Dark Dark Dark Rhode Island Red males are docile. I have never seen a mean one and if I did he would leave the farm.
What state do you live in?
You should be able to find some nice young birds in the next few months from many on this thread who could get you started. You only need a male and two nice females and you can hatch bunches of them next year. Thanks for your post it is a good yard stick to measure the difference between the two breeds of fowl
