The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I noticed today that 2 of my girls have a few tail feathers missing. Uniform missing. Like 1 or 2 on each side of the center feathers. Not sure at around 4 months they do this or my older production roo is pulling them out when he wants one. :idunno Had him with them for protection. He's good at that. But decided to move him back with the 8 production girls. Can't have him pulling there feathers out. :rant

They are probably molting.

Hidi ho everybody, I just caught up on this thread and thought id post a pic of my HRIRs got them from DesertMarcy down here in Tucson Arizona. They are so great, from the Reese/Mohawk line I'll post better pics when they get bigger. I'll be trying to breed them up for meat and for my boys to show when they get a little older. I'm glad to have a site like byc full of so many people that are so knowledgeable thank you all so much.

These folks on this Thread are SO intelligent and a wealth of information when they speak!! Its a pleasure just reading what they say!! and are doing a wonderful job preserving the HRIR, its truly wonderful and rewardingl!!

Oh, again just wasn't sure if they did that at that age. He's still going to stay with the PReds. LOL I wish you could see one of the roos Ron. He is absolutely huge. With really nice bright yellow legs. He is going to be sooo nice I think.

He may be too big, and those legs..... ? Not so sure that's what you want. Do you still got that box he came to you in?
If so just box him up and send him back to me.

The other one isn't as big. But they all have those dark yellow leg with the brownish color in them. Didn't mean there were leghorn yellow.

I have some vids of them. When I get them up you have to check them out. Maybe you can maybe start to see which ones are going to be the good ones. Then you can let me know so I can start banding them.

I got leg bands on 5 of my chicks this morning. Surpisingly the little ones are very fast. I will try again tonight when they are tired. My biggest roo is now chicken #1. It just seemed fitting. We have also named him King.

Seems like this thread has sorta become quiet, must be mowing grass, baling hay etc. My question to throw out there is do your chickens like to eat fire ants, I have one that is obsessed with it, a strange sight to behold.
