You do not have to say good-bye to us we enjoyed you stopping in once in a while. I am sure you do not have to have a RIR chicken to come on,here. Sorry for your loss.
I use #11 but I can see they are too snug on the males and they are only five months old. What size(s) numbered bandettes do most of you use on your HRIR? Different size for roos than hens?
my 11 were for the girls. lol definitely 12 or bigger for the boys. 12 is working fine for me with the bandettes.I use #11 but I can see they are too snug on the males and they are only five months old.
Sounds like you just got a bad start or got eggs from some one and they just did not pan out. I looked up where you live and there are a few good breeders in your region. Mr. Bennett got rid of a bunch of his birds to someone. Maybe you could contact him and find this person and get you a male and two females. Next. in Jan you are a hope skip and a jump to Lake City Fla. There is a old man who sells John Roberts strain of Rhode Island Reds out of his pick up and you and Matt 1616 and Steve from Ga could go through them and find you some hum dingers. They don't cost a lot either. However, if you just want eggs you kind of get what you pay for. In the long run the egg folks don't pan out as well as folks who get chicks from good breeders or adult or started birds from good breeders. I would not give up. Just take a deep breath and go at it a different way. You could have 30 nice dark reds on your ground a year from now if you plan correctly. BOBSo I reckon this is the end of the road for me here. My HRIR pullet that was doing bad passed away yesterday. So I guess this is where I say Goodbye.![]()

Bob the people that got Mr. Bennett's birds are not selling to anyone so there is no need in sending anyone there.Sounds like you just got a bad start or got eggs from some one and they just did not pan out. I use #11 on hens and the #12 are already pretty snug on most of my cockerels
Hey Steven, are you using the spiral bands or bandettes? I am ordering some of the #14 for my RC boys. I don't think the 12 will work for them. lolI use #11 on hens and the #12 are already pretty snug on most of my cockerels
