Sally,
When I brought my eggs to the house, I candled each one before putting them in the incubator and every one of them looked superb. They were all dark with the really nice air sac at the top. I'm so hoping that they weren't left alone to long to get to cold. Sunday will be the 21st day since I set her so they should be doing something between now and the first of the week. I will do the water test on them Monday or Tuesday if nothing happens by then. I just don't have a lot of hope with these because it has been so cool here this past week. The day that I found them the high's were only in the 50's and I can't say how long she was off the nest before I saw that she had left the nest. Oh well, I'm doing all I can do and if they don't hatch then it isn't my fault. I just really did want this clutch of chicks. I still have enough to work with for this year. lol

I just put the final RIR eggs into the incubator yesterday for the season. One of my children left the door open so my favorite birds could free range but my free ranging flock was already out and it was all roosters of many different breeds. So that day's eggs became the first RIR eating eggs of the season. Now I've decided to just give the RIR eggs mixed or not to any future summer brooders.

Have a wonderful Sunday. We are off to Sunday School then to pick up an almost newborn buck.

If you end up in need of a rooster, let me know. I'm sure I'll have plenty.

Oh my gosh,
Talk about some bad luck, I've never had anything like this happen in all my years of messing with chickens. As I've said, the broody hen lefts the nest on day 17, I brought the eggs in and put in the incubator. Friday evening I saw a pip in one of the eggs so I thought all might be okay. Yesterday evening the heater in the incubator started acting up and the temp was down to 80. I turned it up and it wouldn't go above 90 degrees in there. Oh my gosh. Before going to bed I could see the chick working on the pip. I sure never would have believed that anything was going to happen. This morning I looked in as soon as I got up and there is a chick. The fan is still working and the temp is hanging around 90 so I took a lamp and hung it right next to the incubator to try and keep it a little warmer. Going to Tractor supply in a couple of minutes to see if they still have any bators and I'll buy one and put the other eggs in it and see what happens. Oh my, what frustrations. I guess this chick already got it's name, SUPER CHICKEN. Never had so much trouble in my life with a hatch. lol

Will keep you posted.

That is way cool. I had though about using a heating pad but just not sure how to do it and the coolers were given to me and I had lamp kits because years ago I was making shell lamps. I haven't made any of the lamps in years but had a couple of lamp kits kicking around.

Just make one up and use it in a brooder..I swear after 3 or 4 days, you'll notice the difference and will be making them for every brooder..♡♡

Hope all is well..hopefully Super Chicken is a lil girl..lol..

I just had a first. I had put some eggs in a rack from my incubator on a table.I thought they were quitters. I had 6 eggs I thought were quitters and some that turned out infertile in the rack. They sat in the rack on table for a couple of days in a warm room I use to hatch in and 2 of the eggs hatched. The next morning another hatched and again one hatched later that day. The two remaining eggs I stuck in a hatcher but they did not hatch. I guess it was warm enough and they were determined. It was not only a huge surprise but a shock too. Totally unexpected so I guess just about anything can happen. Good luck Jimmy with yours. I hope they hatch... This old gal is happy. I guess it was a miracle.

Well all of this just proves one thing to me for certain. We're never to old to learn and that all things are possible. lol Got the new bator. Not really what I would have wanted but I guess at a time like this we can't be to picky. I do see another pip starting. lol Have to wait for the temp to reach the right place to change eggs. Oh my what a day this is going to be.
Will be letting you all know what happens. lol

That's awesome!! I always keep them in if I have room bc I'm scared of tgat happening. .I hatch and incubate in a bathroom so I can adjust the heat /humidity if I need to get in the hatcher while they're hatching. .knock on wood, so far..all of my quitters have really been quitters..thank goodness bc when I take them out they go in a carton on a shelf that's 5 feet off the floor..

The coolers with the lamp kits work wonderful to put the chicks in to dry off before they go into the cabinet brooder. I thought I'd share some pictures. I love to take pictures for a lot of memories. We are in our sunset years and are enjoying every day we wake up
Some chicks I was hatching for a friend.

There wire soor so I can open the main door during the day. It is hot here in sunny Florida 90's in the daytime now.

Inside the grow-out coop. I'ts divided.

The chicks in the grow-out coop mostly under their shade table. There are some RC RIW's too. Both sides of the coop has a pop door and a shade table.

My brooder cabinet with recent hatches. I have One rack of eggs in the incubator then my hatching for this year will be over

There are a cross with one of my pure RIR males and PR females. They are going to a new home.
