The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Your inside grow out reminds me of mine..I think if I ask the bf to help me move it again he may make me sleep with the chicks..I had it in my grow out room in the barn but I just couldn't bear to not be able to check on them around the clock and hear them if they were stressing..so it's in our wood stove room..I'm thinking about investing in a video baby monitor so I can keep them in the barn and keep my sanity.
I can't wait til I have all of my own breeders and can limit my hatching of shipped eggs, although my hatchery layer eggs have given me the most trouble with hatchibg this year.
Enjoy every second ♡♡ I like taking photos too, my mom has always been a photographer and has taken some gorgeous shots and I think I picked up the passion from her..I also love having pics from hatch onwards of my birds, it's nice to be able to watch how they've changed and to be able to show others that are new to chickens or even just new to that breed what the parents looked like as chicks ♡♡
I'm not retired but I am lucky enough to work from home so I get to spend plenty of time with my babies ♡♡

Oh and I meant to ask..do you have a thermostat in the cooler with the bulb you use for drying? I've been thinking of making something similar for those chicks that need put of the hatcher but aren't quite ready for the brooder

I don't really know what you are wanting to know but I have lots of information on my web page about the RIR's. Address at bottom of my posts, just click on it.

Oh my gosh,
Talk about some bad luck, I've never had anything like this happen in all my years of messing with chickens. As I've said, the broody hen lefts the nest on day 17, I brought the eggs in and put in the incubator. Friday evening I saw a pip in one of the eggs so I thought all might be okay. Yesterday evening the heater in the incubator started acting up and the temp was down to 80. I turned it up and it wouldn't go above 90 degrees in there. Oh my gosh. Before going to bed I could see the chick working on the pip. I sure never would have believed that anything was going to happen. This morning I looked in as soon as I got up and there is a chick. The fan is still working and the temp is hanging around 90 so I took a lamp and hung it right next to the incubator to try and keep it a little warmer. Going to Tractor supply in a couple of minutes to see if they still have any bators and I'll buy one and put the other eggs in it and see what happens. Oh my, what frustrations. I guess this chick already got it's name, SUPER CHICKEN.  Never had so much trouble in my life with a hatch. lol

I
I just had a first. I had put some eggs in a rack from my incubator on a table.I thought they were quitters. I had 6 eggs I thought were quitters and some that turned out infertile in the rack. They sat in the rack on table for a couple of days in a warm room I use to hatch in and 2 of the eggs hatched. The next morning another hatched and again one hatched later that day. The two remaining eggs I stuck in a hatcher but they did not hatch. I guess it was warm enough and they were determined. It was not only a huge surprise but a shock too. Totally unexpected so I guess just about anything can happen. Good luck Jimmy with yours. I hope they hatch... This old gal is happy. I guess it was a miracle.
glad they did hatch it just goes to show you hiw determined and strong some chicks can be were these chicks RIRs?Wishing you good luck.

My project chicks were hatched last weekend and these are some of my Reese babies. lol Got one out and as I was moving the eggs into the new bator there were two more eggs with pips in so it may take a couple or so extra days. I could hear chirping in the eggs as I was moving them. Only God knows for sure what will happen. Faith, Faith, Faith.

I know I've been having some trouble with this last clutch but if any part of this turns out right I can say it was worth it. Truthfully, I'm having a little bit of enjoyment with all this. It is showing me that these little guys sure do have the will to live. They should turn out to be extremely vigorous little ones. If they hatch I will consider them as very strong willed little ones.

Pictures are temporary set up with faulty incubator till I ran to tractor supply and got another one. These are the project chicks at 1 week old. At this point I am 100% satisfied. They are really nice so far. 2 of the 12 are a little lighter but the rest have superb color. I just noticed on one of them today when it stretched it;'s little wing that it sure does have nice black on the primary feathers. Fingers crossed with these and the ones in the bator.
