tHIS IS THE BEST I CAn do right now, this web site is difficult and the wife wants to got to dinner
Didn't they send you a packing list with your chicks?

I got some other breeds from Sandhill and they put in some Auburn Sumatras as box fillers. I think this is what you have, although the comb doesn't look right in the first picture.

I never pay any attention to color of chick down unless its Blue and then I get excited. Most of the times the stripes means its a male or female but with all the knowledge in my head about Reds I don't know which is which and don't care. I like dark dark beak color dark red down color and like to see the tail feathers shoot out of their tails as soon as possible. You just got to pay the price in time to see what you got. Months and months and months of waiting then BAM there they are.

In regards to Hatchery R I Reds there are none that register in my brain except one. URCH. If you go that rout you most likely will have just marginal or so so birds. Most people do go that route and that is fine. They learn how to raise them see what they look like and make a decision to move on and get the real ones keep what they got or get rid of them and go with something else.

There are enough good folks now on this board who have good stock from the top five strains left in the USA to help beginners get out. Now is the time to locate and find the chicks that are there to be purchased by folks who hatched to many .this year. If I had five boxes and some money I could go with you guys to different places and pick up some great breeders for next year. Maybe it would even be cheaper than buying ten started chicks. Some of these folks are selling their extra birds for the cost of the feed to get them to that age. Look if you can and see what you can find. Thanks for pictures we are learning. Any lurkers out there?

Here is one of my favorite females or pullets from last year. What line is she from I cant remember and cant see good enough to tell.

Steve I started my new medications yesterday. He called me to come in and see him just after I got off the phone with you. He feels in a few weeks I will be back to normal. bob

Fentress, I'm not sure what you ordered from Sandhill but that is not a Rhode Island Red.
Yeah I agree too the wild-type makings on the chicks down and the autosomal barring showing on the one is for sure enough evidence you have gotten some crossbreeds. what they are ? is very optional. wildtype markings and autosomal barring usually mean duck-wing/partridge is in the mix somewhere, generally.
