I'm not a know it all but I do know about this. Concerning the Reese/Mohawk. I have a private page on my website with an awful lot of information from a lot of the old breeders in there. When Bob got out of the LF Reds, they went to Andre St. Romaine, Brian Simmons and Greg Chamness. I have the whole story somewhere in my pages but I'm not going through all of this right now.

Ricky acquired his birds from Andre St Romain's mother before she made the cross to the rose combs. Ricky's line was and remains the pure old line that the St Romain's started with. After Ricky's death Jacob Bates got the reds and that is who Ron Fogle got them from. They are pure old Reese birds, even though some say they are no more. I'll always call them what they really are. !!!!!

All of mine are RC Rhode Island Whites. They are from Ryon Carey in KS. If you go to page 3 of the link below from exhibition poultry you can see one of his females.

As you well know there are so few really good Rhode Island Whites out there. Seems that the hatcheries have forgotten what they are supposed to be like for I consider theirs (SC) more of a White Rock than a Rhode Island Red. A true Rhode Island White has to be a RC.

This is GREAT! I'm looking into getting some land and had been told that there were no real RIR's left, and that they had all been bread out into production birds.

It's been quite disheartening in a lot of ways doing my research into what breeds I want to take care of. Finding this post has just made my day! Thanks!

The are quite a few people who want to preserve the true Heritage RIR's.

Put 5 RIR eggs into my incubator tonight. My two yolk eggs are really slowing down. I'm thinking it was the age of the hens as well as the additional flax and soy in the feed mix.
I moved 1 RIR egg into lockdown tonigh with 4 dark shelled mutts. Now I'm hoping the dark ones don't explode or anything. They did not stink and they had the right sized air sacs. But really really hoping my single RIR makes it out all good.

Well today was a good day despite the nasty cold we are having. One of my 6 Underwood girls laid her first egg today. There were hatched mid to late July. I have not had much to add to this it being my first year, but I have been reading every word and studying every photo. I love these birds.

Thought we'd share...
Our oldest daughter got married a few months ago and moved to a subdivision in town.
So... we built her a chicken tractor for Christmas.
We wrapped a 50 lb bag of layer pellets to put under the tree
with a note saying "3 hens from our hen house are included".

Fun Fun... we weren't sure what she'd think but she was WAY excited.
I'm afraid the younger 2 daughters are now trying to figure out if they can get a chicken tractor on the balcony of an apartment or dorm room.

Happy New Year to you!!! Good to hear it is still cold in southern Mn. Have not lived there since 1981. Do not miss the cold lol.
