Nice! :)

Well, it's been awhile since I was on this thread. I just found out today that my roo passed away a few weeks ago. Mom didn't want to tell me because she knows how much I loved my sweet boy, but I would have found out next month when I go back to Alabama anyways. Mom told me that he came out of the coop every day to eat and then one morning he didn't. I couldn't do anything till I get back and I had planned to take him out of the coop till I could get him his own girls. We put him in with my oldest 3 girls after penning up my hatchery roo to be sold. I didn't want anyone to get hurt by Red again before he left, so Tripp had 4 girls to himself after we moved him and his pen mate Henrietta.

My oldest 3 were picking on him and dad couldn't remove Tripp by himself, so I think the stress was part of what got him as well as needing his diet changed. I hate that I couldn't change things for him sooner. I kinda feel like I failed him as an owner. I honestly feel really bad about losing him.

I am sorry to hear that!

Are you going to be staying in Alabama or do you live in Florida now?

Critique my reds?? GENTLY!!!! LOL YES I KNOW they are not show birds. But I love em anyway. However I am going to someday get some Heritage, Just not until I know a lot more. Untill then I am going to work with tweeking this flock. Just to help me learn without messing up a great line. I took these pics when I brought them out some oats and cream so those lil white spots are not them, lol just ON them. I already know the color is not right. I can get better pics if anyone would like to see them when the weather clears up a lil bit again. But I thought they would be an ok start. Please just the good points and bad points. Don't slaughter them. (HA HA). They were all hatched out the first two weeks of August 2013.

Ok. Give it to me.

Well, as we said when you showed us these birds as juveniles, these are your standard, run of the mill, hatchery grade, production reds. They look to be in great condition and you'll love the eggs they lay, as that is what they are bred for.

Here's your cockerel

Can you see that he is a "V" body shape? It isn't just the shiny dark mahogony color that makes a Red a Red. It is the long, oblong, brick turned long ways body that makes the breed. Without that body shape, a bird isn't a Red.

Can you see the long body on this cockerel below?

Your pullets are also rusty colored, are also V shaped and have pinched tails, typical of a production red, a bird bred to lay lots and lots of eggs.

Enjoy your healthy birds. You'll learn a lot and you surely enjoy the eggs.
