The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Well to be perfectly honest im not sure of much. The guy i got these from was recommended to me by someone from a local site. She had a RIR cockerel that had just won best in show at our state fair( was a beautiful bird btw). I asked her where she got it and she gave me this guys name. It was from talking to her that the Matt fellas name came up. When i went to pick up the birds there just wasn't much time to talk and about all i got out of the conversation was that they were Mohawk line. He had some beautiful birds and i picked this cockerel out of about 15 he had. Im happy with the choice i made but wish i would have asked more questions, lol. Not because i dont think i got good birds, just so i would know a little more of their history. To be honest, at the time i wasnt concerned with the history, i just had an idea of what i wanted them to look like. Still not sure how they stand up to the standard, but i think theyre close. Like i said before im open to all opinions and comments. Just trying to learn lol

I would think that the guy named Matt from Alabama would have to be me. These are definitely Reese birds...I can tell by looking at them. I do however think they are a bit older than 6 months. I would say more like 8-10 months looking at the maturity and the length of the spur.

Matt

Thanks. I kinda thought they looked older but was just goin by what i was told. Cockerel started crowing this week. Still waitin on an egg. Thinkin i may not get any til spring

Might as well ask you Matt. Does the name Kenny Wayne Middleton ring any bells?

No, but Kenny Wayne McMillan does...Lol! I seen him at a travel baseball tournament in Foley, Alabama yesterday. Kenny is a friend of mine that does have my birds as well as some others. If he told you that they were from mine than I'm sure they are. Kenny has very good Reds.

Ha my bad on the Middleton thing, auto correct or senior moment. He never told me they were from your birds. I thought i remebered someone else on a post saying he had your birds but wasnt sure. Have talked to so many people and read so much in the last few weeks that a lot of it runs together. Just wanted you to know i never doubted anything he told me. Very nice guy with an awesome setup. Just that we didnt have a lot of time to talk and i was tryin to fill in the blanks. Thanks a bunch

This bird appears to light in surface color. Not dark enough. I guess it could be the lighting in the picture but knowing that he has Urch blood would lead me to believe that his color is off.

Matt
Matt, You're right. He isn't nearly as evenly colored nor as dark as a couple of the pullets from the same group. I'd love to get some general info about the Urch line (since that's apparently what I have), typical faults, strong points, etc. I've not been too successful finding info about them on my own.

Thanks.
Kevin
