The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Only meet him once at the Knoxville show where I got these. Seemed very nice. And the birds are very calm. He is the only cockerel I can just walk up to and pickup. When I clean the house out all the other run for there lives. This one will walk right up to you and watch what your doing. He follows me around every where.

Bob did not have the Kittle line of RIR's. He had the Reese line for many years and I believe he had some Underwood birds when he lived in the North but I don't think he had any other lines of Reds.

I have been going through a lot of stuff since your post and I can't find anything where Bob ever worked with any of the Red's except the Reese birds. Yes, he has said that he had gotten eggs from Gary one time and spend time talking with Gary but that was as Matt said, before he went to Alabama. I don't know about his bantams, I'm just talking about LF. I did find this picture in some of my stuff that came from some book searches and this is a picture of Durham hens. These are in the UK though. I really don't know anything about them other then stuff that I read about them being in the UK and I believe I read something about them being in Wisconsin. I really can't help you with any more on this. Here is where I found this picture if you want to go to that site. Again, it is in the UK http://www.durhamhens.co.uk/

That is amazing ♡♡
It's odd thst you mention the year..in 93 my parents bought an old house (was originally a one room school house), and they remodeled it.. a few years later, in 97, it was the 4th of July and we were headed out the door to a cookout when a man in his 60s knocked on the door with his very elderly mom by his side. He wrote a "Back in Time" article every Sunday for our local paper and come to find out, had lived there as a child and his mom just wanted to see the house again before she passed. My dad took them both on a 'tour' , carried her out to the orchard , sent her home with some veggies out of the garden.. I think we were all crying when they left, she was so sweet..even as a teenager I knew how important it was to her. Her son wrote a small article on the history of the house that following Sunday...the Sunday after that was an article about his mom passing..she passed 4 days after visiting us that day. All I could think about was the powers at work that day. .we should have been out the door an hour before they showed up and a horse had gotten out (thst NEVER got out even if she could) and if it weren't for her, we would not have been there and she would not have gotten that final visit with the house that obviously meant a lot to her ♡♡

And I promise, no more novels about the good days..

I love the birds I got from Matt. My females are very good layers. My original male died (Newton), that I got from Matt a few years ago, but at a show last fall and at a Lake City, FL show 2 of Newton's sons and a daughter got champions. The cockerel that won at Lake City was shown by a young girl in the juniors show, and Matt is a nice guy, dedicated breeder and wise too.

I have experimented with some crosses. My most recent was a RC RIR male with RC RIW females. I think I posted some pictures on this thread and the Sex-Link thread. I have crossed SC RIR male with SC RIW females and SC RIR male with Delaware females. The most surprising was the RC RIR/RC RIW cross. The chicks that hatched were a surprise. They are Sex-Links. It will be interesting to see how they turn out and how they lay. I'll have to take some recent pictures. The oldest ones are around 3 weeks old. I have some that hatched last week too.
