I want some!!!!
Just my thoughts, but if we use common sense, the hatcheries do not have the old time reds like you find on this thread so they would have to be using the Production red etc cock bird over the hatchery barred rock hens in order to get their black stars, black sex link etc. My feelings would be that if you used this cock bird over barred rock hens that you should get the sex link chicks. Don't take this for being gospel though because I'm only giving my opinion. I've never done this.

Sure glad you posted your results on. putting your RIR rooster in your hatchery hens your RIR male what strain line are they from just windering and can you post some pictures?Just for the heck of it I have made several crosses with different red factor birds. Barnevelder on Columbian Wyandaotte, Welsummer on Columbian Wyandotte, and a SC RIR on commercial females. The first two were great sex-linked birds but WOW RIR on the commercial birds it darkened up the girls. They were very close to good color. Didn't hurt egg production from what I could tell. Of course I marked and kept only the females and then sold them off as RIR crosses after their first year of egg production.
At that time I had some from Duane Urch. I have Underwood and Carlow blood lines now.Sure glad you posted your results on. putting your RIR rooster in your hatchery hens your RIR male what strain line are they from just windering and can you post some pictures?
