The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Here is a 12 month old cockerel of mine. He was pretty fired up at being in the wire hoop and would not stand still. He is on full alert and griping loudly. There is still work to be done on this line but I am pleased so far.

Good Post(Place good post sign here--system won't allow Moticons :)

I like the shape and look of this guy. Good job on your breeding program! Do you have the 2010 SOP(or is it APA)? I saw if for sale from McMurray Hatchery. If you have it, where did you get it?

I do have it. I got it directly from the APA. I Think you can get it from Cutler Supply also. Thanks for the complement.

Just wondering...what line is this Red from?

Thanks,

All my Reds come from the late Ricky Bates's line.
Before his death in an accident Ricky was a master breeder and officer with The Rhode Island Red Club of America.

This is a mystery strain of Rhode Island Reds that Ricky picked up from the St Romain family of Louisiana. They got ten started chicks from me about 15 years ago. He won big time at the shows as a junior and in open class his female line went to the dogs. The mother told me they crossed something into the line which is a no no and they never where worth a Hoot since. He went to college and Ricky picked the remander reds from this family. Ricky sent me a picture of two males he had and I loved them. They are in good hands now and will take a few years to undue the harm done but I have faith they will rise to the top again. bob
