Rin swore violently enough to make a sailor blush. "Do we hide?"
Aspen was almost at his rooms door, and he could just make out two voices in there, one, he had no doubt was Anise, the other, he wasn't sure, but whomever it was had a
colorful vocabulary. He gritted his teeth, breathing slowly, trying to calm himself, he didn't want to blow up at Anise, even if she was in his room with someone else.
Anise glanced around them frantically, but there was nowhere to hide, unless she counted the only other door in his study, the room filled with his illegal weapons stash, though she didn't know they were illegal. But that room was lucked with a different pin then the study door, and Anise didn't have it.
Anise stood up a little straighter, realizing that this day had been coming for a long time, he needed to change, "No, I'll handle him," she said calmly, and started towards the door.
Aspen stepped out in front of the other door, seeing his study door wide open, with his sister standing boldly in the opening, and some other girl standing inside it. That was too far.
Anise could see he was about to go off, so spoke before he could, "Aspen, it's time you changed, you've been living a separate life that you don't include me in for too lon–"
He cut her off, voice low and controlled, but his jaw was cleansed, "That does not give you the right to break into my study and–"
"And what?! Aspen, and what! I have the right to know what you do!" Anise spat, her voice moving an octave higher as she took a step forward.
He backpedaled, despising himself for being so protective of his things and secrets that it had caused such a rift between them, he hadn't know... "I did not mean it–"
But Anise cut him off again, all the resentment because of her exclusion from his life after them being separated for years bursting from her, "I don't care how you meant it!" She advanced on him as he took a step back, "What is it you do that is so important that you can't even tell ME! Your own sister! Tell me, if you have ever cared about me, then tell me what it is, or as far as I'm concerned, you don't care,"
Aspen was frozen in place, he couldn't handle this, couldn't process it. No, he couldn't tell her about his illegal activates, he was helping the enemy in trade for trips outside the dome to collect plants and seeds, especially with that other girl there, but he couldn't lose his sister, the only person who cared if he lived or died, the only person he had ever cared about...
At that moment, Lexa just happened to text the location of the warehouse to him. A tiny beep sounded, and the text was instantly sent to the computer chip implant behind his ear. He looked away from Anise, "I have to go, I just, I can't–"
"What?" Anise couldn't keep the shock from her voice, was he really choosing whatever he did, instead of her... He started to turn, but Anise didn't move, "Are you leaving, why are you leaving?!"
But Aspen didn't answer, he couldn't answer, and kept walking, all the way to the door, grabbing his coat off the rack.
"Aspen! Why are you leaving, answer me, Aspen?!" Anise half screamed, tears coming to her eyes, "Aspen!!!"
But it was too late, he was gone, in more then one way. Anise was shaking so badly, that she had to sit on the edge of his perfect bad, and she started weeping. He was gone...
