The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Thanks Germaine. I am really liking these blacks. I hope I will end up with only about 25 to 30 birds when I finish going through them. I am waiting on the hens to feather back in so I can make a decision on them.

Julie - Hoss is looking good. I think he looks a lot better than he did the last time I saw him. I sure hope he turns out to be a nice boy for you. Is he a Winston/Minerva boy?

I'll also take the pullets in pictures # 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, & 13.

Also, I don't think Alfred looks quite as funky as he did the last pictures you posted of him. Maybe he is growing into himself some. His comb doesn't look too big from the front view, but the side view it looks pretty big, and pretty big wattles for a 7 month old boy. You never know, he might end up being the best you've ever seen !!

Julie,
As always, I absolutely love your pictures! I am curious about that black boy of yours, too. Funny thing .... I have the one black roo that I kept, you know. Well, I still have one more..... somehow he missed going to auction. Anyway, he is the one like yours, with the larger comb AND he is absolutely massive in size. I am thinking I will just keep him around to watch.

I have to tell you a story. A couple days ago an old man came by (near 90). He had bought some of my roosters at auction. He wanted to know what those huge things were (referring to the big black Orp boys), and wanted some hens. I expalained, but he persisted. He is old, and not well, and had got rid of most all of his farm stock. Well, he is so enamored with these that he wants to start a new flock. This old man has raised exotic animals for zoos most of his life, and is not easily impressed, and he is totally won over by these birds.

Albert is rather handsome in spite of all that wattlege and combage- I hope he does grow into them. Julie, Hoss is nice - I am loving your blacks, also. I may need to start saving my pennies and get on my knees to you if I only have the one black pullet from Joy-

Joy- pictures this weekend, I promise. DH said he will remember the camera!

Hey thanks for sharing that Kathy. That is funny. you will have to hatch him some chicks. I do keep a few just to see how they turn out. I may possibly try breeding him over some large small combed black girls. I hope he won't be so big he misses the mark.

Thanks Joy. He is very interesting.
I don't think I can part with my young girls.

Joeltabey Just check with me in a few months and I can tell you what I have hatching.

Donnie I don't have any eggs for sale at this time. It will probably be first of year before I have eggs available

Here is a picture of my favorite girl that I hatched from Julie's eggs. She is so large and round, and I'm amazed at all the feathering on her butt. I'm hoping it's a girl!!! She follows me around the yard like a puppy and actually enjoys being picked up. She is about a month old - girl???
