The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Vivi that blue boy is looking good. How old is he?

This boy here is going to be eight months old around the last week of this month. He is still filling out
He is a little light in color

Thanks Vivi. He is really a big boy with good type. Not crazy about his color but am about to breed him to this pullet and I think I will throw some good colored birds even though at least half will be splash. She is really large so I am thinking I will have some very large pullets and cockerels off of these two. Hoping so anyway. Should know by Spring

I really only like to hatch in the fall and winter. Summer is to hot here to brood chicks myself. If the hens hatch a few I let them. I have hardly hatched at all this year. I hatched around twenty total and culled heavy. I was out of the country twice and then in the Hosp. three times so Nothing Spring or Summer but two blacks that were hen hatched while i was in the Hosp the latter part of May. Turned out to be a pair and looking good so far. I am just setting up breeding pens now but all my hens and Cock birds are in a aweful molt and the hens are not laying. May be another four weeks or so before they lay. I am going to work with the few pullets that are laying right now. I have another big splash in with a very large black Cock so i am hoping by the end of next month I have a few chicks from them. The younger cockerels take a little longer to get the hang of it. I haven't had any fertile eggs out of my splash boys yet. It shouldnt be long though

I hope you are feeling better. The heat was awful here as well. I keep my sportsman in my bedroom were I can keep a close eye on it. The Orpington's are so darn cute gotta have babies all the time. I do let my Silkies and American Orps go broody.
