The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

So I'm a bit new to posting here, but I have a question. I have two beautiful Gold Laced English Orps and one Gold Laced Hen...I also have a black English hen...if my Gold Laced Roos breed her...what will I get??

Where have you been!? More GL !! Where are they from?

In theory, when you outcross to black or buff you will completely lose the lacing for 2 generations. And, you will only use the outcross the first generation. f3 you will see the lacing coming back and by 4f you should have the lacing. I say in theory because I'm not there yet. That's just what I've been told by those that have done it before. The important part, besides patience and making sound selections, is keeping really good records by banding the chicks carefully. And, I've been told type over anything else if you have health, fertility, and hatchability.

f1 your GL k x your blk p
f2 your GL C x offspring from the above cross
f3 your GL C x offspring from the above cross
f4 same as above, but you should see the lacing.

Until the experienced breeders answer you question, that's my two cents. I will always be a novice.

The patterning is beautiful. I bet that's hard to achieve.

Louise sure has some nice babies. You have a great start! What do the Jubilees look like as chicks? I don't know if I've ever seen their down coloring.
Our pullet hasn't laid her first egg yet lol soo have not babies to post... I am sure there are others on here that wouldn't mind sharing pictures of their chicks :)

thank you Dee :)

Thanks Deek

I'm waiting for my Gold Laced pullet to start pumping out the eggs, but I think so far it's the black hen that's laying. When the GL hen lays they will be 100% Gold laced for sure...yeehaawww. I've been waiting so long for this. I have 6 eggs in the incubator for a test run, but I THINK they are all from the black hen. Guess time will tell....

Where did you get your GL from? Those first eggs take the longest it seems. Keeping my fingers crossed for healthy babies, no matter the color!
