The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

There were a few posts a while back ive been trying to find about keeping eggs seperated during hatching using suet baskets... I cant seem to find the posts, ive went and bought the baskets though. But what i wanted to know was, what am i supposed to use to put inside the baskets to lay the eggs on? I believe someone said a wash cloth?

Thanks. Im going into lockdown monday so if i have to get anything this weekend when i go in town id like to make a list so i dont forget.

Would you mind reposting the picture please. Thank you!

I remember those posts too. I think they were in the No. Cal. forum about 1.5 weeks ago. Hope that helps.

From what I remember, strawberry and grape boxes from Costco were also recommended for separating eggs in the bator. In both cases, it was recommended to use rubber shelf liners on the bottom of the boxes for footing and on the side of the suet boxes since the holes are so big.

Thank you Alton, Nellie, Deann and thedragonlady(havent learned your name yet, but thedragonlady is a really cool username!)

Ill definitely get some panty hose and a roll of shelf liner when i go intown.

No, she's a Southern Belle.

This is what she thinks...
She is a cutie. I just moved a group to a ground pen today and glad to say I had more girls than boys for a change. Maybe keeping the temp down is working. I have one in that group that I really really like . She is blue. and about 5 weeks. I just put a heat lamp lite on them for tonite cause it is getting down to mid 30's here tonite. I moved the 3/4 month olds back to there ground pen since it has finally dried out after the 25 inches of rain. They were so happy.

Michael,

I know we are a little off the topic here. But, these are English Orpington eggs and some others. I don't think the baskets will work in your Genesis 1588. Here's a little incubator that I just picked up at Tractor Supply. It's on sale for $35 BTW. It is getting me out of a jam. Works great. I added a computer fan and the temp is dead on. Anyway, look at the pic. This is one way to divide your eggs. I am in lockdown. But, I opened it just for you. So, feel special. Nevermind the dirty eggs. I incubate them separately, but hatch them together. They're too precious not to try. I have great success with dirty eggs. So, why not? I never wash any though. I just scrape the majority of the poop off with a utility knife. Tic-toc. Now, the waiting begins.

How many eggs are you setting?

Phantom that is a nice set up. Did you make a tent out of the wire in the middle and line it with tape?
I bought the suet green baskets to cause i will have three different breed pen hatches. Two in the basket and one loose. I incubate in a cabinet bator and hatch in the Genesis. I would be clueless unless i saw some one do it to install a computer fan.

My chicks seem to be Olympic high jumpers... Soo.. I feel the need to have a lock tight lid. I used the wash cloth the first time ... because it was the only thing handy at the time.. lol .. worked great :)
I got mine one day this week at Walmart after I saw Renies pics. I have a three group coming off next week

Seen someone else did this a few post back. I got this egg today which is a bit bigger then what I usually get. About half the eggs one of my hens lays r very close in size to this and my oddball white Orp hatched outta one of these big eggs. I candled this one and it appears to have only one yolk and one air cell so in the bator it will go. Yes its pootastic but I plan to set it so not gonna wash it. Its been rainy and snowy here.

I would love to have stock like this.

The video was uploaded byba person named hendaisy. She uploads videos all the time at shows and events either in Germany or the Nertherlands i believe. Not too many LF, a few here and there.

I would love to have like a critique of these birds from anyone who wouldnt mind. Im teaching myself about proper type and stuff like that by reading and studying pictures hours on end. So it would be real helpful if the knowledable folk teach us a thing or two here.

This kind of goes back to what Jeremy and Jhorn were saying
I like the color on these. I don't care for the chest at all on the Roo. They might be bigger than they look too. Dont seem to large
