The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Hello everyone! Can anyone suggest a breeder of quality blues near North Carolina? I have talked to two people so far but their birds were far from what I would call "quality." I would prefer to pick birds up instead of shipping, I don't really trust our postal service lately.
Thanks!

Awww, she is lovely!
Julie I wanted to show you this girl, she is the only offspring I got from Hoss. her name is Betty Lou Who, I am really pleased with how she grew up. She is a little messy in this pic as I just introduced some new birds to her pen so some squabbling, hope you like her, I just got a new Cockerel and I really like him so hope to get some chicks from her.

What a pretty lady!

Please grace me with your chick knowledge!
Out of all the lovely chicks I received, let me stress I was sent more than I paid for so this is not a complaint, one of them has just never done as well. This chick is now 1/2 the size of the rest of the brood. It eats and drinks, but it sleeps more and does not eat and drink with the gusto of the rest. Any suggestions or advice? I do not want to keep a weak bird, but for some reason I think this one has the potential to be quite lovely later. Is there such a thing as a late bloomer chick?
Thanks guys!

Yes,
Sometimes there is a chick who is just a bit slower. As long as the chick has a nice full crop, and does eat and drink. And sometimes there are chicks who have a failure to thrive. You can put a drop of Poli Vi Sol with out iron on the chicks lower beak for a few days to see if that might help. Adding ACV to drinking water. Fermenting the chick crumbles.

I ferment my big birds feed, but I wasn't sure about fermenting the chick crumbles. Is it ok to feed this exclusively?

Try soaking some rolled oats for the babies too. I start mine with Quaker rolled oats soaked for 12 hours , then mixed in with the chick starter to moisten it. They LOVE it, even at a week old. The extra bulk is good for their digestive system too.

Thank you for sharing her. She is really a pretty girl. Hope you get some awesome chicks from her. I love seeing the offspring of birds we have loved. My husband really didnt want me to sell Hoss cause he was his favorite boy. He has a good eye for the birds too
