That is interesting phantom...When my freind was here couple weeks ago, he is just crazy about the blue orps.. he was telling me the male will more influence the color, the female the size..like in nature the most brightly colored males usually win the breeding season, pass that on to thier offspring...Vickie, harry and some of the others know more of the what underlying color genes are there.....it is probably coming through the male..

Braver than me. My orps are ALWAYS hungry, for EVERYTHING. I'm certain I would become a snack to a horse sized hen.
Wish my orps are the same way. Mine are DIVAS and I always have to find different type of treats and food to keep them happy.

I really didn't want this lady to go broody on me, so I'm making her wait it out a few days. I don't think she is too happy about it. The wind was really moving her soft fluffy feathers around.

Here's a question for y'all. I have a mulberry tree right in the middle of my big run & berries all over the ground & it don't look like my Orps. are eating any of them, Anybody know why ?
I would have thought they would eat them up. Maybe they are & I just don't see them ?

Are the mulberries ripe ? Sometimes they fall before they are. The Orps like them ripe !

They are black so yes & I have ate them myself so yea they are ripe, My guess is they are eating them but the tree is loaded so its kinda hard to tell how many have been on the ground.

If they have never had them before it is kind of an acquired taste for them. If I toss them into a pen of chickens that has never had them before they might lay there all day before someone will try one. But toss them into a pen that has had them and it is like a Parana frenzy. The hens grab and go running squawking with the other hens hot on her tail trying to grab them out of her mouth.

They are so comical to watch.

Our trees bear every other year, so many times we will have chickens that has never had them and it is always a new experience for them (and I make jelly/jam out of the mulberries that is the bomb

) Our mulberries will not be ripe for another few weeks, mid to late June, they are pretty green right now but your are much warmer than us this time of year.
