The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

OK, in the APA world, barred and cuckoo isn't the same. In my case with a cuckoo male over choc females, what should I get? I just put eggs in last week. I kinda thought I would get a black male that would be a choc split. Then I would have to cross the split guy back over choc females.
we have a few buff american orpington hens that are under a greenfire farms lemon cuckoo roo
some chicks come out with washed out looking lemon barring
others look to be true buff orpingtons.

we thought we would hatch out a dozen english lemon cuckoo eggs that we mail ordered
so we would have a couple propper english pullets for our english boy
so far after 2 different tries all we end up with is stinky eggs

most of the time we get between 80% & 100% hatch rate with our foam bators
but not from mail order eggs : (

so i guess all we get is crosses this year

Good Morning,
I hope you do not mind my sharing a little this morning. I know you will understand the breed and behavior.
I was looking through my pictures and found some of the Roo I lost this year.
I cannot believe how much I miss him.
I raised him and his brother........When he was about 5 months old I heard the sound of help coming from outside.
Ran out the door to see a coyote running down the fence line with one of the boys in his mouth......
I could do nothing..........................I don't need to tell you I was a mess for days.....
I said a little prayer that he would not suffer.........
About two months later my Dh and I were tucking the chickens in for the night.
There was a big beautiful BBS 1/2 English Orp standing in the middle of the barn.............
I checked for my other roo and sure enough had two..............somehow that roo Mr. coyote
had taken returned......Looked very good with the exception of one missing eye.
And yes, I hugged him.
The other part of him I want to share is just what a good guy he was.............
He was so mellow that he allowed three of my Serama roosters to live with his flock..
If you can visualize those three one pounders tucking in between those big Orps to roost.
Anyway, hope I have not taken to much room here with my story...Thanks for listening.
And I guess I just have to be grateful for the time I had him................

Hello all! I am hoping one of you chicken gurus can help. I have a young cockerel that has me stumped. This is a new line for me and may be totally normal for this bloodline, but I have never seen anything like it. I received about 10 chicks together of slightly differing ages a little over a month ago. Some were feathered, some still had chick down. The youngest chicks all went through an ugly stage but this little guy takes the cake. They are from an imported line and black. I have been giving him and his siblings liquid vitamin and probiotic supplements in addition to their 20% starter feed. Some still have slightly balding on the face and head, but this guy lost all his down everywhere at once with no replacement feathers. Can chickens have alopecia?

Almost forgot, also looking for name ideas for this little girl:

We were thinking Maude cause it's only one letter different than mauve (which is what she is, a mauve EO), I wish she would stand still long enough to get a picture that does her justice, but shes three months old...
