The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Speaking of the show..my rooster is seriously blowing coat and I sure hope after I give him his last bath he looks great. I am a bit worried about his tail feathers. He is filled with quills and I hope those are removed with a good bath and rinse.

His conditioning pen looks like that commercial with the cat in the fan.....POOF
He is on his 5th week of moult.

Bill Bacon is a Longtime High Quality Orp Breeder from York Pa. He almost never sold Buffs, he has started selling a few recently. I believe he sold 3 trios at Sussex Show this Spring. Romig will know him. Have to say, I Really like the Color on Most Import Buff Male Birds. I was not surprised you won at Twin Tier. I think Vickie's assessment of the Import Orps (Underfluff, Feather Width and Pigment) is mostly accurate and that they have been bred fairly close to our standard however; someone (Wherever they came from modified them) from original Pownall Stock.

Thanks for the info on Bill Bacon..., I knew the bird was good, I just wasnt exactly sure how good...I was swarmed with people at that show wanting to know about him,....Im really glad you have had a chance to asses them up close as well..you have a lot of knowlege to draw on with buffs..I am beginner , but the first thing I thought when Vickie sent them was , its not so much feather length they have but the width is greater.. .That win is all Vickies..I am just the groomsman..these birds clean up real nice..pop them in a bath, scrub the fanny and they glow..I had to do little or nothing really, the white orp on the other hand was a different story..I was thinking one thing, but judge and I had a later talk and he corrected me on a few things I thought I knew..which was super helpful..I really liked his imput..he was to the point.. told himI left the better bird at home, and just really wanted to hear what he had to say about this one..great education for me..

pullet?

I am pretty sure this is a pullet

It is interesting that the European breeders have not given in to the hanging fluff craze in England, but have adhered to the British Standard. BLESS THEM!

Vickie, Did you ever Have a suspicion of a Specific Person or Persons Taking Them? I would think it would be a small group of people with enough interest to actually do something like that. The birds are still very recognizable someone should have a clue by now.
I have my suspicions, but I can't prove anything until I get my hands on the birds. Then I can PROVE positive ID.

Nice babies Delisha....LOL...He looks really good compared to the blk I showed...look at that wonderful shine!! good looking bird..nice work .So excited your going !!! My Poor fella molted out the tail quils wernt quite getting going..at least you have the quills coming in, for mine it was too late he was already signed up ..we called him head and shoulders because the missing tail except 1 tail feather made him look like , well, head and shoulders.. I think he fell under the catagory broken and missing tail feathers LOL...

I gave a couple blks to some jr division kids to show, My freinds 2 sons showed them along with a bantam cochin they had bought for the kids ..The dad went out to ohio last year and bought some blks that came from michigan too..real nice looking birds..The one boy got grand english with the michigan pullet and the younger boy got reserve english jr with my pullet. and I think reserve asiatic with thier cochin.so they are just having the time of thier lives with the birds..I told dad, he better build the kids a trophy room.....I kept telling dad, that michigan cockeral gonna go grand for the kids, well first day he didnt..but 2nd day he did, my pullet was reserve both days...so we all had a blast.. and you will too...I kind of fell in love with that michigan blk cockeral, I think he said the breeder was mills? but not real sure about that

Curious Which White did you take and What were the Instructional Comments. Also, My Buff Import Cross Pullets es could be penalized for Fluff and Legs under 2 Inches. The Males would probably be OK.

How old are these?

I think 11 weeks..

Thank you Aveca,

The blacks are his kids. I will have a ton of fun. I like the shows. The clean up is not that bad either.

I was going to say that but had been afraid to..The import Buff males are out of this world , but your right about the females so I didnt show any..Romig came up knew they arnt quite what you would want to present yet..not a happy medium but if we work on it, it will be..we hatched one cockeral that suprised me later this last summer, at first no eggs were fertile , still young birds, then all of a sudden they were all fertile but a little too late, this cockeral leans a little more SOP bit longer legs but still has all of that bulk that you like..nice neat tail no color issues...he is at a freinds or I would get some pics...but I dont think he will be ready for anything until between 8 & 12 mos..hes only about 6 mos now...the pullets are like you said at this point..Vickie has some females showing more what they would want to see..

The whites, here are a few pics below...my coop tags read the same both days..The judge was kind enough to talk to me afterward..On the bird I took.. he told me was a Little long in the back, wasnt showing the over all balance that the buff did..but young so had some time to fill out..Some broken tail feathers..My mistake, didnt remove him soon enough from grow out pen. younger so needed more grow time....In my mind I thought I might get DQ with the gold from sun showing..but it was just something that Im going to have to work out in time..I had double coops. these have quirks but interesting group of whites.. I am SO appreciative to this judge for taking the time to talk to me..because I knew the better bird was home but I wasnt quite sure what to think about this one..

I think it may be the same story with the white females, not quite as low as the buff females but they are young yet, may wind up a little poofy, time will tell..they are heavy and lot of chest but guess we will see what they look like a little later

This is the male I left at home. he is built much more bulk like the buff and wider leg ect..

another pic same male

and one more from front

a few of the females
