The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I have two nice blacks left. I'm hoping to get a few blue girls from Helen that I can put with the black to get another nice blue. Of course, just waiting for yours to start laying!! Fortunately the chicks I just hatched are from Walter and there are 3 blues there, but the hen's they are from could be better so I don't think I'll end up with one as nice as he was. I'm trying to find some current pictures of him, he was huge! I was hoping to show him in March he did so well in his first show. I do believe I will have improved splashes from him, just hope there are a few girls there.

Well, the sun was shining today so I was able to help hubby hobble down and sit out with the chickens today and I took a boatload of pictures. I'll try to get some posted later this evening.

I should do the same thing, it's actually not raining here today. But the wind is blowing and it makes my ears and nose hurt if I stay out for too long.

It's great to see the ongoing enthusiasm for Orps on this thread. One day I'd love to have a pair of the British blues. Their body type and coloration is amazing. Here's a picture of a British gold laced Orp cockerel at Greenfire Farms. He's still in that gawky adolescent phase in this picture but he's filled out quite a bit since the photo was taken. I'll try and post an updated shot in a few days. But, even in this photo you can see the promise of the lion's mane starting to come in and the wide chest of this very large bird.

Thank you so much for sharing the photo of this pretty Gold Laced. I was just on your website marveling at your Jubilee photos. You are doing a wonderful job getting the other colors over here. I really like the Gold Laced Orpingtons. They are my favorite.

Joy, I am looking forward to seeing the new photos. I have been getting a few more eggs each day. the pullets and hens combs are turning red. I just separated the splash pullets and cockeral together in hopes of getting eggs soon for someone who just wants splash to work on their Whites.. My youngest black boy is getting better by the day. Can't wait to breed him. I have one pullet that has gone broody, can you believe that. I am so happy the black hen I am showing this weekend has a red comb finally. It wasn't red last week. she looks like her normal gorgeous self again. I would love to get pics this week but it won't happen till show time. I have to work hard the next two days not to get behind at work. I sure am getting hatching fever.
