The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Really glad to know I'm not the only one. I've never had an 18 week old chicken I couldn't sex. My roo was easy, double barred, this one, not so much.

Have you ever tried the feed Nutrena puts out called "Feather Fixer"? My poor hens get like that too. I mix it with their layer crumble and I also feed them extra scrambled eggs, since feathers are mostly protein, they need all the help they can get! :) You will see the difference in about 3 weeks if you incorporate "feather fixer" also with molts, they start laying sooner too. That's just been mine experience.

Ok I love this thread so much but it doesn't stay very active so I'm gonna change that I'm gonna post a pic everyday and I hope everyone does the same!

I have a genetics question....I hatched out some bantams from a breeder's pen of chocolate/blue, and a pen of chocolate/mauve. The babies were 1 mauve (which died), 3 chocolate, and one chocolate "splash." The patches of splash on this pullet are clearly mauve, not blue. I just had a professional photographer complete a photoshoot of my birds and I will show you the photos, I have yet to photograph this chocolate splash pullet well enough to do her justice. I'm trying to decide which pen to keep her in for breeding. I have a chocolate cockerel, a slate grey blue cockerel that I may or may not keep due to both color and temperament, and a blue splash cockerel. What in the world will I be getting????
